Friday Food: Marinated Steak

For today’s edition of Friday Food, I present to you the best freaking steak marinade you will ever try. I’m not even joking. It is A-MAZE-ING. Kyle made this for me when we first started dating and I knew I had to be with him for the rest of my life just so i could keep having delicious steak. Okay, not really, but still!

The recipe is actually brought to you by the fabulous Emril “BAM!” Lagasse, with a couple of tweaks:

  • ½ cup red wine vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Mix everything together in a bowl until nicely combined and pour into your marinading dish! (I use a large lasagna pan) For the best flavour, let it marinade for at least 24 hours, flipping the steaks over at the half-way point.

Here’s mine after the flip:

The marinade is enough for at least 4 decent sized steaks.

BAM! Happy Friday!

Friday Food: Hankerings!

I have no recipes to share this week. I’ve been working evenings and haven’t really had time to cook anything! Microwave dinners FTW. My ass is going to hate me.

Instead, I present to you the foods I’ve been craving. I swear I’m not pregnant, I’m just weird. I’ve posted about this one before.

  • Avocados, preferably in a salad. Shocking thing? I’m not a huge fan of guacamole.
  • A hamburger. A big, juicy, “OMG this can’t fit in my mouth”, hamburger.
  • Yam fries. Preferably on the side with my hamburger.
  • Indian food. I’m considering taking my Dad out for dinner for Father’s Day just so I can eat delicious Indian food.
  • Salmon. No one in my house is a fan of fish or seafood. :( I may have to buy single fillets for myself and BBQ them.
  • Artichoke dip. My mom actually bought this really yummy artichoke-jalapeño dip from Costco and I want some of my own. But again, no one in my house is a fan of spicy food. Stupid picky eaters!

I think that’s it for now. Tomorrow I’m off to Kelowna to visit my BFF and her baby girl. I’m pretty stoked! We’re going bridesmaid shopping/browsing since I’m going to be on of her bridesmaids next summer. Ironic considering my post on Wednesday.

Happy Friday everyone! Craving anything lately?

Friday Food: Greek Salad

Oh hey look! I made a button!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Friday Food blog post, so with summer just around the corner, I thought, how else would I kick off barbecue season other than feature my favourite summer salad!

Greek salad is pretty straight forward, but the secret, I think, is in the dressing!

Kyle makes the most amazing homemade Greek dressing, and it’s so freaking easy! Just three parts red wine vinegar to one part olive oil. Sprinkle of salt, a sprinkle of dried oregano, mix it all around and you’re done!

Here’s how we put together our salad the other night:

  • 1 Long English cucumber, chopped
  • ½ red onion, chopped
  • One red pepper, chopped
  • Two hot-house, on the vine tomatoes
  • LOTS of Feta cheese :)
  • 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Sprinkle of salt
  • Sprinkle of dried oregano

Chop your veggies up into a bowl, make your dressing, pour and toss! You can adjust the oregano and salt to taste. I meant to take a photo of the dressing before it went onto the veggies, but I forgot. The ingredients above serves about 4.

I like olives, but Kyle doesn’t, so we omit them.

Delicious, right? Mmm, summer couldn’t get here any sooner! Happy Friday everyone, and Happy Memorial Day long weekend to the folks south of the border! :)
