Blog Swap: Angelica

Hey Guys! Looks like I got a post to share with you after all! Here’s a guest post from Angelica, and be sure to check out her blog Gelie Beans and Sparkly Things!

——-

Hi Ya’ll! This is Angelica at Gelie Beans and Sparkly Things! As part of the 20SB blog swap, I was lucky enough to get partnered up with Kara from Chatter! Since it is the holidays, and the new year is upon us, the theme for the blog swap, “Action. What will you do next year that you’ve been putting off for too long?” seemed fitting!
2010 has been an amazing year.. i’ve been pretty blessed! But I know I know i’ve got a lot to live up to in 2011. Among putting off the normal things we all shove aside, you know like the laundry, cleaning house, changing the oil in your car (I do not recommend doing that!), I actually have a pretty heft to-do list!
  1. Complete a 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon. I know that seems crazy, but it is something that I physically can do (if I train properly) and mentally can do (I think I can!). I’ve been training and already completed 2-5K races in November, so I know I can do the smaller mileage, but I’d love to proudly be able to say I ran a half! We will see!
  2. Finish a book. Im terrible about starting a book and “reading” it for 6-12 months. Seriously. My boyfriend bought me 2 books in July for my birthday, and guess what? They went straight on the shelf. I want to read them, and I defiantly have time, I just have to get off facebook long enough to read a chapter or so every night.
  3. Print my Spain pictures. I studied abroad in Spain in the summer of 2008 and I have only printed out a fraction of my pictures. As part of my welcome home/ birthday party when I returned, by best friend got me these beautiful photo albums to put all my pictures in, and you guessed it. they are on a shelf, empty. it’s embarrassing!
  4. Actually sell something on Etsy. I’ve had a shop open for quite some time, and make some cool stuff that people have bought, I just haven’t been brave enough to photograph my stuff and put it online. This kind of coincides with opening my own business (Im an interior designer!) I know I can work for myself, but I am so nervous to go out on my own! I’ve been working for other designers for over 4 years, and I hope im ready!
that seems to be all i can put my finger on right now. have you been putting something off for way too long that 2011 can cure?? hope to see some of you visit my blog, and be sure to read some chatter on my blog as well! happy holidays!

Blog Non-Swap

So it’s a bit of a late post today but there’s a reason! I was supposed to take part in the 20SB Blog Swap today and had even received an email from my partner with plans to pick a topic and everything, but when I emailed her my post yesterday I didn’t get any response. Low-and-behold, it’s late Monday afternoon and I still have no guest post for you, so I figured I’d share the post I wrote on my own blog. No sense in it going to waste, right? Right!

The theme for this blog swap is: “What will you do next year that you’ve been putting off for too long?”

There are a lot of things I put off for way too long; Laundry, cleaning the bathrooms and vacuuming are just a few of them, but I suppose that there’s several bigger things that I’ve been pushing aside simply because life is just too gosh-darn hectic. In 2011 I’m going to (or at least hope to):

Get married: This is actually a given. I’m getting married to the love of my life of eight (8!!!) years in late spring. I wouldn’t say we’ve been putting off getting married, but we’re only 24 and we’ve accomplished a lot before marriage, like buying a house, finishing our post-secondary schooling and developing a savings account. I can’t wait to finally become a Mrs.!

Travel: I didn’t do a single bit of travelling this year other than a weekend trip to Vancouver, (B.C.), to watch a hockey game with my love. I’ve been so busy with working two jobs that it just never happened. Hopefully in 2011 I’ll be able to throw in more trips to Vancouver and hopefully beyond. We picked up passport applications on Saturday so here’s to getting them filled out and used!

Be more domestic: I can’t bake or cook fancy meals to save my life. I really need to learn, because you can only have the same three casseroles so many times before you start to dread dinner. I’m a huge fan of my slow cooker, so maybe I’ll master that. Just don’t expect me to cook a turkey dinner for 10 people. Not happening.

Get back in the gym: I cancelled my gym membership back in June because I had no time to use it. Next year I want to get back in action and get back into shape.

I think that’s about it! Thanks for reading, and be sure to go check out Angelica’s post on my blog as well!

What have YOU been putting off for too long?

Bloggerstock: Potential Postcards

Hey All! Today’s post is from Coyote Rose for Bloggerstock. It’s posted for your reading pleasure below:

******

So the Bloggerstock theme this month was: “If you could write ONE postcard to any person (living or dead), who would you write to, what would you say, and where would the postcard be from?”

And i thought long and hard about it. I mean there are dozens of people i would like to write too. But when it came down to it Marie Antoinette was the winner.

Why would i want to write to a spoiled, pompous queen, who cheated on her husband and ultimately got beheaded?

Because I feel sorry for her. For those who read my blog, you know that I have my masters in European History. One of the very first papers I wrote was about Marie Antoinette and her influence on French Politics. I was using a book of translated letters between Marie Antoinette, Her Mother the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and the Austrian Minister in France, Comte De Mercy-Argenteau. The poor little Austrian Princess Marie was married to her second cousin and shipped off to France at the age of 15. I mean can you imagine being carted off to a foreign country, where you barely know the language and married to a chubby, smelly arrogant, toe-rag of a french boy at the age of 15? I mean it kinda sucked for her.

Plus her mother was a total tyrant. The Empress Maria Theresa had spies watching Marie every hour of every day. The poor girl couldn’t sneeze without her mother having an opinion about it. Furthermore, mommy-dearest was trying to use her daughter to gain political control in France. I mean Maria Theresa basically told her daughter to pitch a hissy fit when it looked like France was going to go to war with Austria. She would have told her daughter to withhold sex, but Louis XVI had some sort of sexual dysfunction, so Marie barely slept with him anyways.

Anyways, I would send poor little rich girl, Marie Antoinette, the postcard above from present day Versailles with the note:

Love what you did with the Palace, but take a long vacation to Austria in the beginning of July 1789 otherwise you just might lose your head.

Coyote Rose
