TGIF v.11

The high of my week was getting my ultrasound appointment booked for February 10th! I was super excited when the ultrasound clinic called, and I’m hoping that they can get the results to my doctor’s office on the same day so we can find out what we’re having! Kyle will have to work, so I’m having the MOA write down the gender and seal it in an envelope so we can open it together when he gets home from work. Yay!

Another high of the week was finalizing my contract/paperwork for the temporary position I landed at the university. I start on Monday! (And am pretty nervous about the whole thing since I haven’t worked in almost 3 years. Eep!)

The low of my week was that it was a rough one on the potty training front. I thought Isla was doing SO well, but she reverted a little at the beginning of the week and it nearly left me in tears. She did way better yesterday though, so let’s hope it was some kind of phase.

A blog post I loved was this one by my favouritest local photographer, Jo Leflufy, about tossing those New Year’s resolutions away. I couldn’t agree more with her; I’m most definitely a deadline-driven person instead of a goal-driven one.

The best money I spent was on some plastic containers to put all of my homemade turkey soup in. Pretty lame that this excites me, but now I have a bunch of frozen lunch-sized containers of soup that I can easily thaw out and eat for lunch at work. I win.

My favourite Isla moment was taking her to an art session at one of the local baby/mom stores on Wednesday. She had SO much fun painting and hanging out with the other kids and was so sad when it was time to go. A bonus? Our favourite little friend and his momma lead the sessions, so it’s extra fun for Isla!

The song that has been stuck in my head is Anaconda by Nikki Minaj, and I hate myself a little bit for it. I even downloaded and threw it onto my USB stick for my car, and Kyle got a good chuckle out of it. Oh well.

My favourite meal of the week was the homemade turkey soup I made on Thursday. It was a pain in the butt to make (the turkey didn’t fit in my soup pot, I burnt my hand ladling it into its containers), but in the end it was really tasty!

My plans for the weekend are visits with an out of town friend tonight, a comedy show tomorrow, and prepping (mostly mentally) for my new job on Monday!

What are your plans for the weekend??

Pregnancy 2.0: 16 weeks

When I first learned Kyle and I were expecting Baby #2, I almost immediately thought about whether or not I should do week-to-week pregnancy posts again. While I enjoy looking back at my weekly update posts when I was pregnant with Isla, it was a lot of work to take the photo and fill in all the blanks.

Eventually, I decided to go with taking baby bump photos every other week. I think you’ll see more differences between weeks, and it’s less work for me. (Ha!) Also, instead of the huge batch of fill in the blanks, I’ll just do a handful of them instead. Easy, peasy!

So, without further ado, here’s my 16 week update:

16 Weeks

Size of baby: A dill pickle, according to the Ovia Pregnancy app. Last week it was the size of an avocado, so I’m assuming it’s a pretty big dill pickle ;)

Feeling: Okayish. On Monday morning I think I was having some low blood sugar issues because I suddenly got really tired and shaky, but felt better after I DEVOURED two PJ&B sandwiches. Other than that, my hips have been killing me (sciatic nerve pain, I’m guessing), and I keep getting wicked headaches. (I blame the stoopid weather.) Ugh. Kyle swears that this pregnancy has been harder on me than Isla’s was, and I’m pretty sure he’s right.

Craving: Nothing is standing out too wildly right now. Salty foods are more appealing that sweet, which according to the old wives tales says that this bambino is a boy. ;)

Other: I have my next prenatal appointment on Tuesday next week, although my usual doctor is away on holidays so I’ll be seeing his fill-in instead. It’s hard to believe I’m already moving into the forth month of pregnancy! I should be getting a call at some point in the next week or two to make my anatomy ultrasound appointment, a.k.a the appointment where we find out if Baby #2 is a boy or girl! I’ve created a little Google Doc Baby Pool, so feel free to click the link and put your guesses in if you want!

Moments of Motherhood: Lessons learned

This week’s Moments of Motherhood column is now up at the Armchair Mayor News and in it I talk about the lessons I’ve learned in parenting over the past year. You really do learn something new every day when you’re raising a toddler, and 2014 was no exception.

Here’s a snippet:

While we’re already a few days into a new year, it’s hard not to look back at the past year and remember what we may (or may not) have accomplished.

When raising a toddler, 365 days is an enormous length of time for growth and 2014 was certainly a year of growing, not just physically but mentally as well, both for my daughter and myself.

I hereby present to you a list of lessons learned in the past year while raising a toddler:

You can brush their hair when it’s wet but if it’s dry, forget about it. Attempts to do so will result in screaming and flailing fits coupled with proclamations that they “don’t want to be beautiful.” [Continue reading …]

What lessons did you learn in the past year? (As a parent or not?)
