27 Weeks

How far along? 27 Weeks!

How big is baby? She’s about 14.5″ long from head to toe and weighs approximately 2lbs, according to BabyCentre.ca.

Total weight gain/loss: I really have no idea, but since I feel like a whale, I’d say I’ve gained at least a couple more pounds.

Maternity Clothes? I really, really, need to go shopping for more tops. My wardrobe is starting to get pretty slim as I’m getting bigger. I’m trying to hold off for a couple weeks since I’m going to Kelowna with my mom for her birthday, and they have a slightly better selection and prices there.

Stretch marks? None!

Sleep: It’s still hit or miss. Some nights I sleep really well, others, not so much. Oh well.

Movement: Tons! Actually, a couple days ago baby had lodged a limb of some sort under my ribs for the first time, so that was good and uncomfortable. She eventually moved, but I’m hoping she forgets about that hiding spot for a wihle.

Food cravings: I was really craving Chinese food for the past few days, and since we had friends visiting, I took advantage of the opportunity to order some. It was AMAZING.

What I miss: I made myself a strawberry smoothie the other day and I really wanted to turn it into a daiquiri.

What I am looking forward to: FINALLY getting Baby’s room painted! My grandpa is coming over on the weekend to help me paint. I’m looking forward to spending some time with him, and it means a lot that he wants to help.

Milestones: I had my gestational diabetes test last week and the orange drink gave me the worst heartburn ever. I thought I was going to die. I’ll find out the results on Thursday at my doctor appointment, so fingers crossed that everything is good!

Listy Friday

Oh Friday, how glad am I to see you? Here’s today’s list of random shiz:

  • It’s been an unbelievably long week for me. I’m tired and I’m surprised I haven’t caught a cold or something because of it. I’m ready to sleep in tomorrow morning, for as long as I can with two dogs.
  • Speaking of two dogs – Kyle and I are in the final stages of adopting a dog. There’s been so much going on that I haven’t had time to blog about it, but if you follow me on Twitter or have me on Facebook, I’ve posted a few details and some pictures.
  • Yesterday at work my computer monitor died. And then, as we were plugging in the back-up monitor, my coffee spilled onto my keyboard and that died as well. I’m full of technology win lately.
  • Yesterday I also had my gestational diabetes test in the morning. Nothing like chugging sugary orange liquid that tastes like orange pop first thing in the morning! (It tastes even better if you just brushed your teeth) Between that and the mocha I drank afterwards, I had a slight sugar buzz. And Baby seemed to like the orange drink because she started thrashing around shortly after I drank it. Kyle called it Red Bull for babies, lol.
  • In true Kamloops fashion, it snowed on the first day of spring, and then promptly melted away by the afternoon. We had the wonkiest weather, I swear.
  • Last week I took a 3-hr digital photography crash-course class with my awesomesauce wedding photog Jo. I am happy to say that I definitely learned a few things and can now take WAAY better photos in full manual mode with my camera. Thanks Jo, you’re the bestest!
  • Heartburn has been killing me lately. Even when I avoid all the things that cause it like acidic and spicy foods. I’ve been eating Tums like they’re candy but I’m thinking I might have to try something stronger. This will be a question for my doctor at next week’s appointment.
  • I would like to say that my husband is truly the most amazing man I have the pleasure of knowing. He’s done so much for me lately, I don’t know where to begin when it comes to thanking him. Thanks, my love :)
  • The second most amazing man I know is my grandpa. He’s my hero right now.
  • Friends are coming to visit this weekend and I’m looking forward to some good times and laughs. I really need it right now, so it will be nice.
  • I have zero interest in the Hunger Games, just like I had zero interest in Harry Potter and the Twilight movies. Sorry kids.

That’s it! Happy Friday!
What are your weekend plans?

3 to 6 Months

When I hear “3 to 6 months” I think, “Well, that’s pretty vague.” When you look at it, school, for many kids, will be out for summer in three months, and then in six months it will be back in session. Four or five months puts you smack-dab in the middle of summer. I don’t like such vague terms.

However, that’s what we were given. My family, that is. My grandma, who’s health has taken an unfortunate turn, has 3 to 6 months to live. Last week she was given a CT scan and they discovered cancer. Bad cancer. Terminal cancer. Cancer that had started in her pancreas and metastasized into her liver. Cancer so aggressive that given her current condition, it’s untreatable – because of the stroke she suffered, which happened because of the heart attack she had. In fact, doctors figured the cancer is what caused the heart attack.

But what on earth would have happened if that 1 in 5,000 odd didn’t happen to my grandma and that she didn’t suffer a stroke during her angioplasty? What then? Would we keep going on not knowing? Would she still have only 3 to 6 months? Would my heart still be hurting so badly right now?

If none of this happened, my grandparents would just be arriving back into Canada from their snowbirding trip, sun-kissed and full of excitement to finally see their family after four months. My grandma would most likely have an armful of pink onesies picked out for Baby. Now … now she might not even meet her great granddaughter. I’m due in three months.

And it hurts. So much.

3 to 6 months.

Fuck.
