TGIF v.50

How is this my 50th TGIF post? And how has it been two months since I’ve written one? Regardless, life’s been busy, so here’s a quick glimpse at what we’ve been up to this past week:

A high of the week was finding out I received a solid grade on my Accounting midterm. It’s no secret of mine that I’m horrible at math and with numbers, so this course I’ve been working on has really made my head hurt. When I found out I got an awesome mark on my exam, I was pretty pumped, to say the least!

A low of the week was Norah’s early wake-up times. They’re not so bad when I’m getting up to get a run in, I just bring her down to the basement with me and she plays, but when I’m jonesing for that extra little bit of sleep she’s a buzzkill. I have a feeling she’ll pay me back when she’s a teenager and will sleep until 2pm.

An internet find I loved was Mr. T’s post on Twitter in regards to curling:

I mean, come on! Curling just earned some serious street cred. I played quite a bit when I was a kid and loved it; if I had the chance to join a team I totally would start playing again.

The best money I spent was on a bunch of fancy hand soaps at Bath & Body Works. They were on sale yesterday for only $2.95 each, so I couldn’t pass it up! (Plus the foam and yummy smells guarantees that Isla will thoroughly wash her hands when I ask her to.)

Oh, and I also bought new running shoes last Friday and I’m in love with them! So far they feel great and I haven’t had any issues, although I still need to work on the tightness of the laces. (Numb toes are no fun!)

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was on Wednesday when we helped Isla hand out her Valentine’s Day cards to her classmates. Norah fell in love with Isla’s classroom and I couldn’t get her to leave! (Bribery definitely happened.) It’s amazing to see how much Norah looks up to her big sister, even though they are still SO different when it comes to their personalities.

A song that has been stuck in my head is all of the new Justin Timberlake tracks. SO GOOD.

My notable meals of the week were the carne asadas we made on Saturday. Craving Satisfaction mission = Complete!

My plans for the weekend are to have dim sum with my Dad to celebrate Chinese New Year on Saturday, plus go to a Barre & Brew event that afternoon. Pretty sure I’m going to have dead legs by the end of the day!

Happy Friday! What are your weekend plans?

TGIF v.49

A high of the week was getting to go to – and participate in – Isla’s dance class on Wednesday. It’s “Bring a Friend Week” and while I kept asking Isla who she’d like to bring, she forgot to ask someone before it was too late. Cue the tears :( So, I offered to be her “friend” and she was so excited to show me how to dance! She even picked my dance outfit for me. (“You can wear a sweater and then if you get too warm you can take it off and hang in on the barre!”) Anyway, it was fun to be be 5 and I’ll tell you – it was a lot harder than I was expecting! They did burpees. BURPEES. Safe to say Isla is tougher than I am. Isla thought I was pretty hilarious and I’m glad I turned her “Bring a Friend” day around for her.

A low of the week was Norah slipping and splitting her frenulum (aka that lip-tie bit) with a straw. While she barely made a fuss about it, I took her to the dentist to make sure everything looked okay. She should heal up just fine and there’s nothing to be concerned about, so yay!

Also, our Christmas tree fell over due to GHOSTS (I swear!), but thankfully there were no decorations on it yet and nothing got broken. It’s now shoved against our railing so it won’t fall over again, and we’re seriously considering a fake tree next year.

An internet find I loved was pretty much all of the Carpool Karaoke segments with James Cordon.

The best money I spent was no money at all – I had a voucher for a free 2kg bag of dog food, but alas, my dogs don’t eat the brand the voucher is for. I got the bag anyway and I’m going to take the girls to the BC SPCA to donate it to the pups there.

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was taking them to see Santa on Monday after school! Norah was drawn instantly to him and cozied right up for a photo, but Isla was very reluctant and shy. She ended up not sitting with him at all for the photo, and when I asked her why she didn’t want to visit him she told me that she wanted Norah to have a turn to have her photo taken all by herself since she’s always been in the photo with her. It’s quite the excuse, but it’s an adorable one!

A song that has been stuck in my head is “Sorry not Sorry” by Devi Levato. Girl is fierce!

My notable meals of the week were dim sum on Tuesday! Norah and I went out for dim sum with Kyle’s uncle and we stuffed our faces with so much food. I haven’t had dim sum in who knows how long, so it was a nice treat!

My plans for the weekend are celebrating Christmas early with Kyle’s dad, and watching Die Hard. (a.k.a. The Only Christmas Movie that Matters!)

What’s your favourite Christmas movie??

TGIF v.48

A high of the week was Norah actually enjoying swimming lessons on Tuesday! While she likes being in the water, she wasn’t interested in actually listening during her lessons. I’ve discovered that the less time we have to wait in the pool before lessons start, the less restless she gets during lessons and she’s more likely to participate.

A low of the week was finding out I got a less than stellar mark on a final exam. I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t expecting to pass with flying colours, but it was a good reality check. Also, being allowed to do open book tests during a course but not being allowed to have one for the final is BRUTAL. Lesson learned? Always study as if you were going to do a closed book, regardless!

An internet find I loved was this guide by on how to choose the right office chair for you. I may not work in an office setting at the moment, but one day I hope to get back to work and I know from experience how the wrong chair can make a day drag on. Luckily, the fine folks at have put the top-selling office chairs to the test and have chosen the top 3 based on ergonomics and what was most comfortable. Definitely check out their guide if you’re ever in the market for a great chair.

The best money I spent was on a Red Flag Thursday deal on a SodaStream for Kyle and I. We’ve been wanting to get one for a while, so we figured to snag one while it was on sale. (Also, how did sale “days” like Black Friday get all these ridiculously-named bonus days? Cyber Monday? Small Business Tuesday? Pffffft.)

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was Norah just being, well. Norah:

A song that has been stuck in my head is a little ditty called “Nowhere to be Found” by a (BC) local artist named Kazz. Fun fact: The dude singing backup is a friend of mine from ball, so definitely give it a listen!

My meals of the week were fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, mild Italian sausages with carrots and pasta, pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and baked zucchini, spaghetti, roast beef, and Actifry chicken wings.

My plans for the weekend are watching the Santa Clause parade Saturday morning, Christmas shopping Sunday, and relaxing on Sunday!

Have you started Christmas shopping?
