TGIF v.34

A high of the week was definitely doing the Blackwell Dairy Run on Sunday!

Isla can’t wait to run in another race, lol.

A low of the week was my washing machine dying mid-wash on Monday. With a tub FULL of water and soaking wet clothes. Perfect! The culprit? A stinkin’ baby sock. Even after Kyle removed the sock, it still wouldn’t work.

An internet find I loved was this post by Sarah Kallies. It was shared on Facebook by one of my momma friends and I couldn’t agree more with it. There is so much “information” out there today on what’s best for your child and everything is contradictory. My method? Do what works best for YOU. As long as you’re not putting your kid in obvious danger (“Here you go, Norah, play with this carving knife while Mommy has a nap!”), you’re doing just fine.

The best money I spent was $13 on some shorts for Isla. Yay, Costco!

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was watching them have some fun at the park on Wednesday. We fed the ducks and geese, met a muskrat, and played on the playground for a bit. After last week’s crumby weather, it was nice to spend some time outside, regardless of my stupid allergies.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Victorious” by Panic! At the Disco. (Also, am I the only one who thinks they sound a lot like Fall Out Boy?)

My meals of the week were:

Monday: Jambalaya
Tuesday: Meatloaf
Wednesday: Beef stroganoff
Thursday: Cedar planked salmon with this garlic-dijon glaze/sauce.

My plans for the weekend are buying a new washing machine, watching Isla perform in her dance recital, celebrating Kyle and I’s wedding anniversary, and the usual slo-pitch games on Sunday! Whew!

How was your week?

Race Recap: Blackwell Dairy 3km Fun Run

This race was exactly what it’s titled: Fun! We signed up a week before race day and it twas a family affair, with Isla, Norah and I “running” the 3km fun run and Kyle doing the full 15km race.

While we’ve heard a lot of things about the Blackwell Dairy Race, this is the first time we decided to participate. (Obviously, since Kyle only recently started entering races.) He wasn’t feeling 100% prepared for the 15kms, and I had no idea how Isla would do running in the fun run, but we geared up Sunday morning and hoped for the best!

Kyle headed out to the starting line with his mom ahead of the girls and I so he could pick up our race packages. (We forgot to on Saturday and there was no way I could get myself and the girls out to the race location by the 8:30am pickup deadline.) I met up with them about 15 minutes before the 15km race was going to start, so we got to wish Kyle luck on his run before he lined up for the 9am start.

The 3km fun run didn’t start until 9:15am, so the girls and I hung out with Kyle’s mom until it was time for us to head out.

Like I had mentioned before, I had no idea how Isla was going to handle the run. She’s been asking non-stop to “race with daddy,” so this was the closest thing she could do for the time being. And honestly? She did SO good! She ran her little heart for about half the course until she started to get tired, but she didn’t give up once. (The ice cream promised at the finish line was a HUGE motivator for her, haha!) Once she saw the finish line, she kicked it into high gear for one last sprint and finished with a smile on her face.

And Norah did awesome as well! She was happy as ever in the stroller and fell asleep around the 1km mark and slept until after we crossed the finish line and got our ice cream, about 40 minutes all together!

She had to get the ice cream that matched her shirt ;)

I have no idea what our “official” time was, but I think the girls and I finished in about 35 minutes. We ate our cones while we waited for Kyle to cross the finish line, and Isla cheered loud and proud for him as he finished! My heart most definitely burst when she ran up to him for a celebratory hug. ;)

(Kyle did awesome with an official time of 1:27:07. Not too shabby considering how challenging this course is, and I’m so proud of him!)

Oh, and I got a great little workout pushing Norah along in the stroller and cheering/encouraging Isla on! While Isla ran, I managed to keep up/set the pace by speed walking. At one point I tried to get ahead of her to take a photo but she started sprinting because she though I was going to leave her behind :(

Norah was the family cheerleader!

We’re already looking forward to running this race again next year! It was a great challenge and like I said before, I’m super proud of how well both Isla and Kyle did! Her dad really is her hero <3

TGIF v.33

A high of the week was getting the house ridiculously tidy and clean. I know – that makes me sound like a complete adult, but it’s true. The house has never been cleaner!

Also, Norah turned 11 months old on Monday and I’m just in awe of how fast she’s grown. Feeling all the feels over here, for sure!

A low of the week was a rotten night of sleep for everyone in the house Tuesday night.

An internet find I loved was not really a find, but I was curious to know how far we walked when we were down in Vancouver visiting my brother so I mapped it out on Google Maps. Excluding the Aquabus ride over to Granville Island, we walked nearly 6kms! No wonder why my feet hurt. (Crappy walking shoes didn’t help.)

The best money I spent was $10 on a new pair of shoes for Norah. They were originally $18 but between a sale and a coupon I practically stole them!

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was letting them run wild at an indoor playground on Thursday! We met up with some moms who I know from my June 2015 baby group and kids and the girls both had a blast.

Cue meltdowns in 3, 2, 1 …

The song that has been stuck in my head is Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself.” WHO AM I? I feel like I’ve reverted back to being a preteen with my taste in music these days.

My meals of the week were:

Monday: Spaghetti
Tuesday: Fried chicken with new potatoes
Wednesday: Meatballs
Thursday: Barbecued ribs

My plans for the weekend are taking Isla to her last dance class before her big year-end recital on Saturday and doing the Blackwell Dairy Race on Sunday! Kyle’s doing the 15km race and the girls and I will be doing the 3km Fun Run! Isla’s looking forward to racing ;) I also have slo-pitch Sunday evening after taking a 2 week break. I’m hoping my quads have recovered finally from the Boogie the Bridge and I can actually run during ball. We’ll see!
