Weekend Update

Happy Monday, everyone! This past weekend was a productive and busy one in our household!

Thursday
When Kyle came home from work Wednesday evening he surprised me by telling me he had taken the next day off! He’s been working so hard at work lately, so it was well-deserved for him and Isla and I loved having him home for an extra day!

We spent most of the day outside enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. (Well, Isla and Kyle did. I sat in the shade because pregnancy + heat = misery.) Kyle started demolishing our shed as we have contractors coming at the end of this week to build a new retaining wall and fence for us.

My mom came and picked Isla up for her usual Thursday visit, so Kyle and I headed out to The Keg for an early anniversary dinner! We’ll be celebrating 4 years of marriage on Thursday this week, but since he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to get that day off, we thought we’d celebrate early. Yay!

After dinner we had some time to kill before picking up Isla, so I made a stop in Carter’s/Osh-Kosh to pick up some pj’s for Isla and another outfit for Baby N – she’s gotta have a couple outfits that are new to her, right? ;)

Isla fell asleep on the way home, so Kyle and I watched a movie we had recorded on the PVR before heading to bed ourselves.

Friday
Kyle’s uncle came over first thing in the morning and he and Kyle started ripping down our old fence and the remainder of the shed! It really didn’t take them long at all and it’s going to look and be SO amazing when the work is all said and done. Kyle’s mom, step-dad and grandparents eventually arrived to help disassemble the makeshift allan block wall and took the blocks to his mom’s place.

I had a hair appointment Friday morning – my last one before I have this baby, so I had a little extra taken off! I was supposed to have a doctor’s appointment too, but his office called and said he wasn’t coming in; he had been up the past two nights in a row delivering six(!) babies, so he needed sleep! He said June was going to be busy for him, but maybe those six May deliveries freed up the month for him a little ;)

Saturday
Isla had her first of two dance recitals in the afternoon, but we spent the morning out in the yard puttering.

When it was finally time to get ready for Isla’s recital, I’m fairly certain that I was more nervous that Isla was. She ended up doing SO great on stage though! The 2-year olds were so adorable and they definitely got the best response out of the audience as far as reactions go. (A lot of “Awwww”‘s could be heard!)

After coming home and getting Isla out of her dance gear, we headed down to his mom’s for barbecued hamburgers with his family.

Isla had her 2nd recital that afternoon, but the morning was relatively slow-going before we headed out to do our grocery shopping for the week. Then after lunch, it was time for the recital! My mom came with me to this show, (Kyle’s mom, aunt & uncle, and my dad & his girlfriend went to Saturday’s show), and afterwards we headed out for frozen yogurt to celebrate Isla’s performance.

She has her last “class” (which is actually photo day) on Tuesday, and that’s if for the summer! Classes don’t resume until September, so she has all summer to practice everything she’s learned, haha.

So yeah, our weekend was full of both productivity and fun! This week is already shaping up to be a busy one as well; I have something going on every day this week and the contractors are arriving Friday to start working on our wall. Basically, I have no time to think about the fact that I could give birth any day now ;)

How was your weekend???

Weekend Update

Happy Monday, everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It sure was a gorgeous one in these parts.

My weekend started on Thursday:
It was my birthday! I turned the “magical” age of 29, so I suppose that’s the age I’ll be for the rest of my life now. ;) It was a fairly low-key day. I opened my present from Kyle (Apple TV!) while he was at work since I had it sitting on the counter and Isla reached up and grabbed it and started opening it for me, lol.

I went and had sushi for lunch with my dad & his girlfriend and in the afternoon my mom came and picked Isla up so Kyle and I could go out for dinner when he came home from work. I wanted to go to The Noble Pig, which is a brewhouse and a ridiculous place for a pregnant woman to want to go to, but they have deep-fried pickles that are SO amazing and what pregnant woman wouldn’t want those? I also had a virgin Caesar and a pulled-pork sandwich. SO GOOD.

We went to my mom’s for cake afterwards and that was pretty much my birthday! It was simple and perfect. I received a couple of gift certificates for pedicures (one from my mom and one from Kyle’s!) so I’m all set to have nice feet for when this baby comes.

Friday
Isla and I headed down to Langley to visit my friend Callie! She and Dave had bought a townhouse last fall and I figured I should probably visit and see their place before this baby arrives and I really had no time/energy to travel. It was my first long-distance trip with just Isla and I, but she was an excellent companion and only drove me crazy a couple times down & back ;)

We had awesome weather and an lovely visit! Callie and I watched movies and binge-ate junk food after Isla went to bed and it was great to just hang out and relax.

Saturday
Isla and I got ready to head back home mid-morning after a delicious breakfast. She was a little ornery on the drive home but we survived! (Note: While she likes pointing out how big the mountains are, she does NOT like it when I sing “She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain.”) We got home mid-afternoon to find that Kyle was almost finished putting her new dresser together! Isla’s “Big Girl” room is now complete and it looks awesome. Now we just need to hang the curtains in the nursery and I can start really setting up for the baby to arrive.

Kyle’s aunt & uncle stopped by for a little visit that afternoon as well; they had a birthday present for me and it was good just to see them and catch up! They got me an awesome stone cookie sheet and an ENORMOUS cookie cookbook, so guess what I’ll be making a lot of in the future … ;)

Sunday
Sunday, of course, was Mother’s Day! Kyle made me breakfast and we more or less set out on our day as per usual. I did some grocery shopping and Kyle did some repairs to our fence so Campbell will stop escaping. I went down to my mom’s for the afternoon with Isla and we had a nice, relaxing afternoon in the yard. Isla ran and played and then did some “swimming” in the hot tub, lol. (My step-dad turned the temperature waaaay down so it was like a nice, warm pool!)

After our visit there we met Kyle at his mom’s for Mother’s Day dinner with her, his grandma & grandpa, and aunt & uncle.

It was a busy weekend, for sure, and I now have a busy week ahead of me! At least all this busyness is making time go by fast; before I know it I’ll be going into labour, I’m sure. (Probably even sooner if I don’t slow down, ha!)

How was your weekend???

Weekend Update

This weekend was brought to you by sunshine!

Friday
Kyle and I went and looked at a house Friday morning but walked away unsure about it. Actually – he liked it and I was unsure. The neighbourhood is exactly where we want to be, but the house itself needed a lot of adjustments/updates that weren’t really reflected in the asking price. I know – we kind of just bought the house we’re in now (November 2011), but we’re already running out of room and would like more space. This hunt won’t continue much longer since I’m only getting more pregnant and moving with a newborn would be zero fun, so we’re getting frustrated with the lack of options there are on the market right now.

Anyway, after that we picked up some food from the grocery store for lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon outside in the sunshine!

Saturday
Kyle worked an overtime shift so it was just Isla and I! We met a friend at the park just down the hill from our house where we played in the playground, had a little picnic lunch, and fed the ducks! The ducks/geese really appreciated Isla’s generous portion sizes too.

After the park we didn’t feel like heading home quiet yet, so we headed down to my mom’s for a visit! Isla had some more lunch (growth spurt maybe?) and we went outside to enjoy the sun some more! We were outside from about 11am to 3:30pm, and it showed once I put Isla to bed. Even though she napped on the way home from my mom’s, she still crashed hard at bedtime.

Oh, also, around 7pm Saturday, before Kyle got home from work, our landline starts ringing and when I answer it’s a lady asking if I own a pit bull. I say yes, completely forgetting that I had let Campbell outside. Well, apparently he had escaped and was hanging out on this lady’s patio in her back yard. Mother f-er! Luckily she was just down the street, so I packed Isla into the car, grabbed Cam’s leash and went to get him. They didn’t seem overly bothered by him (i.e., not intimidated by the fac that he’s a pit bull), and commented on how friendly he was. At least Campbell was winning that way, because he was in so much trouble!

Sunday
Kyle worked at fixing the spot in the fence where Campbell managed to escape. (To no avail, however. Cam escaped AGAIN last night during his pre-bedtime pee break, but I caught him in the act and he didn’t go far.)

We did our routine grocery shop for the week and after lunch we headed down to Kyle’s mom’s for a visit since his grandparents had just returned from their snowbirding trip to Arizona & Hawaii. I spent a little too much time sitting in the sun and got my first sunburn of the year. Oops.

11058368_10155483743670297_4643531037553781046_n

After dinner we came home and I got Isla bathed and into bed. Kyle and I watched the rest of the Vancouver vs. Calgary hockey game, and then went to bed ourselves!

Despite the sunburn, I’m so glad that the weather is nice! I live for this mid-20°C weather. When it creeps up towards 30°C I get a little cranky, but this weather (and this weekend) was perfection!

How was your weekend? Did you get sunburnt?
