TGIF v.18

The highs of my week were visits with my grandpa, the landscapers finally starting our retaining wall project, watching Isla mimic the dancers auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance, visiting the Farmer’s Market, toddler-led art with Isla and our favourite friends.

The low of my week was being pregnant. I’m just so done, but my doctor is away for the majority of next week so I’m just going to have to hang in there if I don’t want the on-call OB delivering Baby N. Blarg. Oh, and finding out that I’m GBS positive, but there’s not much I can do about that.

An internet find I loved was this recipe for Strawberry Mint Lemonade that Hillary had posted, and this wonderful idea for gifting homemade cookie dough that Colleen posted. (Funny how the pregnant lady loves ALL THE FOOD POSTS! Haha.)

The best money I spent was the $12.50 I spent at the Farmer’s Market on Wednesday. I got two bags of garlic scapes, a head of leaf lettuce, and a pastry treat for Isla. I can’t wait until later in the summer when the market is REALLY in full swing!

20150610_170147My favourite Isla moment was probably not her favourite moment, but the other day she briefly fell asleep in the car around 5 pm (WAY too late to be napping) so I woke her up when we got home. She had a hissy fit at me because she was so tired and proceeded to just lay down on this gross chunk of carpet we have in the garage and fall back to sleep. I woke her up and she stayed awake after that, but it was pretty hilarious. (See photo to the right for the hilarity –>)

The song that has been stuck in my head is still Maroon 5’s “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf***er.” It was finally released on iTunes in Canada, so I was able to download it! (Mind you, I got the “clean” version since Isla is a fan of singing along to the music in the car.)

My favourite meal of the week was the lasagne I had at my mom’s on Tuesday. I’ve had a hankering for lasagne for a while but haven’t been able to make it because Kyle has recently discovered that he’s slightly allergic/sensitive to cheese. My grandpa was staying at my mom’s so Isla and I went down for dinner and a visit, and it was SO GOOD.

My plans for the weekend are an early birthday party for Isla on Saturday. Since I’m either going to be uncomfortably pregnant or have a newborn on her actual birthday, Kyle and I decided to throw Isla a small, family-only party a couple weeks early. I’m fairly certain she won’t know the difference, and we’ll treat her to something special (a cupcake or something like that) on her actual birthday. I’m just in no shape to have a bunch of people over right now, and if I wait until after the baby comes I don’t want the all attention to be on her instead of Isla.

The high of my week was getting the nursery finished, as far as decor goes. Everything is FINALLY put together and in place and it as really relieved a huge amount of nesting stress for me. It was great that we didn’t have/need to paint the room, so it was a matter of just getting the furniture put back in and the new curtains hung. (Actually, after this photo was taken I ended up getting a different curtain rod because the cheap one I bought at Walmart sucked. Surprise surprise!)

The low of my week was waiting an entire day (it seemed) for my car to be fixed at the dealership on Wednesday. I took it in for the headlight to be replaced, a vibration in the steering wheel to be fixed, and the mystery behind my 12V outlet to be solved, at 10:30 and didn’t think it would take them until 3 pm to get 2 of the 3 issues resolved. I got sick of waiting and just took my car back from them without the 12V outlet issue being figured out. The headlight and the steering were the major issues and got fixed, so I just wanted to go home. Luckily I just hung out at mom’s with Isla and my stepdad while I waited; they live just over 1km away so Isla and I walked there – which was the longest walk ever in the heat and being 35 weeks pregnant. Live and learn!!

An internet find I loved was this Etsy listing for instant downloadable & printable wall art. I’m holding off on buying them until after Baby N arrives, but the nursery walls are in desperate need of some art and I’m thinking these in 8×10″ will go wonderfully in the room.

Full disclosure: I was not compensated in any way for sharing this listing.

The best money I spent was on a couple of toddler art classes for Isla that start in June! A bonus? The class is run by my amazingly talented friend, so I’ll be able to get in a visit with her while Isla paints her heart away. Yay!

My favourite Isla moment was just seeing how much she really enjoys her dance classes. I debated a lot about whether or not I should continue down the path of Dance Mom, but seeing how excited she gets to go to class and how happy she is when her lesson is done, the answer was clear. I pre-registered her for the next level of classes starting in September, so here goes nothing!

The song that has been stuck in my head is “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt …” by Maroon 5. Downfall? It’s not available on iTunes in Canada yet AND the chorus isn’t exactly car-friendly when I have Isla with me. I guess it’s the censored version for me when it becomes available here.

My favourite meal of the week was the crockpot ribs I made on Wednesday. I was planning on doing them on the barbecue but we ran out of propane Sunday (a not-so-fun surprise in the middle of dinner-making), so I had to re-think my dinner plan. I ended up using this recipe for the rub and then this standby BBQ sauce recipe for the sauce, plus a couple cups of water, and the ribs turned out SO good.

My plans for the weekend are birthday shopping for Isla on Friday, and Kyle’s dad will be in town Saturday evening. I also have an appointment for a pedicure with my mom Saturday morning (YAY!) and there’s a pregnancy/baby expo happening on Sunday that I plan on hitting up as well!

What songs have been stuck in your head lately?
What’s going on for you this weekend??

TGIF: v.16

The high of my week was receiving our tax return in the mail! Not that we have super fancy plans for it – we’re replacing the fence in our backyard and building a retaining wall. But still – it was a wonderful thing to receive! I also finished a project I’ve been working on for the past few months and sent it off to the publisher. Yay! It should be printed and in the mail in the next couple of weeks!

The low of my week was spilling a glass of water all over my Macbook. Way to go, Kara. After dealing with a wonky trackpad for about 12 hours, everything seems to be working just fine again. At least it was just water? I’m sure any other type of liquid probably would’ve killed it.

An internet find I loved was not really a find, but after finishing Gilmore Girls last week I wanted to start a new series to watch with Isla while we ate lunch. Kyle suggested Friends – the episodes are only 22 minutes long and it’s easy to watch. Okay – it’s perhaps not the most toddler-appropriate show for Isla to be watching, but whatever. She seems to like it and now asks for Friends at lunch instead of Gilmore Girls.

The best money I spent was on the curtains I scored for the nursery off a local buy/sell group. They will likely go up this weekend!

My favourite Isla moment was her mooning me. Seriously, this kid is hilarious! She was leaning into her toy bin to get something and had a bit of a plumber’s crack showing, so I said to her, “Nice butt crack, Isla!” She responded with “Thank you, Mommy!” then pulled her pants down further and mooned me! I died laughing, and now of course she thinks it’s the best thing ever to do.

The song that has been stuck in my head is Matt McAndrew’s single, “Counting on Love.” I really wanted him to win The Voice last season and was sad that he didn’t, but his new song is so good! It helped that he performed it the other night live and that James Valentine accompanied him …

My favourite meal of the week was nothing. Really. Nothing stands out in my head, except for the crap-tastic dinner I made Tuesday, which was indeed, crappy.

My plans for the weekend are a little R&R visit at a friend’s house and getting the nursery closer to being finished. May is jam-packed with stuff happening on the weekends, and I have a feeling June is going to be here before I know it! (Which is good AND bad!)
