TGIF v.27

It seems like I’ve been slacking completely on blog posts these days. Life’s been a bit busy, so I thought I’d toss together a quick TGIF post for you today!

The high of my week was seeing Isla progress in her swimming lessons! She’s really loving her lessons and is doing well so far!

The low of my week was Norah being a cruddy sleeper Sunday and Monday night. I don’t know what was ailing her, but she was up a LOT both nights and I’m surprised I was able to function on Tuesday.

An internet find I loved was this “10 Little Monkeys” parody. It’s pretty spot-on and hilarious, and if you’re too lazy don’t have time to click through, here’s what started the viral post:

The best money I spent was on nothing. I didn’t really buy anything that could be considered money well spent this week, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was finding this awesome “super tall dragon wall” that Isla had built all on her own. She got a huge bucket of Lincoln Logs for Christmas and she loves going into her room and building things all on her own.

The song that has been stuck in my head is  “WTF” by Missy Elliott.

My meals of the week were:

Sunday: Night off! (We went to Kyle’s moms for dinner.)
Monday: Jambalaya
Tuesday: Meatloaf
Wednesday: Swiss steak
Thursday: Chicken fajitas using this homemade fajita seasoning recipe.

My plans for the weekend are an appointment with our financial advisor this morning, dance lessons for Isla on Saturday, and visiting my mom on Sunday. Pretty low-key!

TGIF v.26

The high of my week was going out and finding our Christmas tree! This year we wanted to go out and cut one down in “the woods” after being super disappointed in our store-bought cultured trees the past couple of years. Kyle’s mom, aunt, and uncle joined us and we had a fun day hunting for our trees, complete with campfire-roasted hot dogs, hot chocolate and marshmallows! We found our tree and I couldn’t be happier with it! My house is now officially ready for Christmas.

The low of my week was catching a cold. Boo! Kyle had caught it last weekend and was kind enough to share it with me. I’m hoping it will go away before Christmas, so I’ve been pounding back the vitamins and echinacea!

An internet find I loved was this recipe for homemade Shake & Bake from South Your Mouth. Kyle has a sensitivity to corn and its byproducts and the store-bought stuff is loaded with corn starch, making quick and easy dinners a bit tricky. I turned to Pinterest for a homemade recipe and this one is awesome! Tastes even better than the real deal too.

The best money I spent was not necessary an inexpensive shopping trip, but I did a HUGE shop at Costco and now my giant freezer is looking a little less bare. I’m hoping I don’t have to make another huge shop like that in a while!

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was getting their letters from Santa in the mail! Isla has discovered the joys of snail mail and I usually just give her the junk mail and she’s happy enough, but to have an actual envelope addressed to her? She was elated! Kyle read her letter to her before bed and she just can’t stop talking about it.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd. I blame the Victoria Secret Fashion Show, but the song has grown on me and now it’s stuck in my head. Also stuck: “Downtown” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Oh, and a variety of theme songs from the Disney Channel, including Doc McStuffins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

My meals of the week were:

Monday: Fried chicken
Tuesday: Meatballs
Wednesday: Beef stroganoff
Thursday: Chicken fajitas
Friday (tonight): Pork chops

My plans for the weekend are hosting Kyle’s dad tomorrow for an early Christmas dinner. Other than that, no special plans! We’ll most likely do some grocery shopping for Christmas dinner and just relax and countdown until Kyle’s off on holidays!

What are you plans this weekend? Do you have a homemade recipe for popular store-bought stuff?

The high of my week was having an amazing husband and wonderful mom help me out on Monday when I had dental surgery. I really could not have done it without them!

The low of my week was having said dental surgery. My face feels like I got hit with a 2×4 and the special mouthwash I have to use makes all my food taste like garbage.

Also: Norah fell off the couch because I’m an awful parent and left her there for 2 MINUTES while she was sleeping so I could help Isla in the bathroom. The stinker decided to wake up and roll over and she bailed. She cried for maybe a minute and was back to her normal self. And to retaliate for my negligence, she barfed all over my shirt. Touché, kiddo. Touché.

An internet find I loved was this post by Melissa at So About What I Said. Click through and read it, please, and then high-five Melissa for sticking it to them.

The best money I spent was on a little outfit for Norah for her photo with Santa. While she has a ton of cute hand-me-downs from Isla, I try to put her in new outfits for special occasions, like her monthly update photos. That way, when she looks back on her photos when she’s older she doesn’t develop a complex ;)

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was getting Isla’s hair trimmed up. It’s long, wild and crazy and it just needed to have a couple of inches taken off.

The song that has been stuck in my head is the theme song for Toopy & Binoo. I hate myself a little for introducing Isla to Treehouse, but PBS Kids was getting boring for her. Oh well.

My meals of the week were:

  • Sunday – Meatloaf
  • Monday – Campbell’s Butternut Squash Soup from a box! (Kyle and Isla had meatballs)
  • Tuesday – Jambalaya {via Looney Spoons}
  • Wednesday – Spaghetti
  • Thursday – Oven baked honey garlic chicken

My plans for the weekend are to relax! Actually, I have no idea what our plans are for the weekend. Isla’s dance class tomorrow has been cancelled because of the Santa Parade, but I don’t think we’ll actually attend. Maybe I’ll try and get some Christmas shopping done instead, without a certain toddler …
