Ten on Tuesday

1. How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?
I’m pretty neutral about it. It’s really not a big deal for Kyle and I. I find everything to be stupidly overpriced and gimmicky.

2. Are you in love?
That I am – I love my husband very much!

3. What is your favorite love song?
Probably “Marry Me” by Train. I walked down the aisle to it for my wedding, and it still makes me all teary-eyed.

4. Did your parents do anything for you on Valentine’s Day when you were a child?
We’d get a little goody bag with chocolates and candy.

5. What is your love language? (Click here if you want to take the quiz.)
My scores were Words of Affirmation: 6, Quality Time: 9,  Receiving Gifts: 2, Acts of Service: 9, and Physical Touch: 4. So, according to the quiz, my love language is quality time. I’m not sure how much I agree with it, but oh well.

6. How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Gifts? Dinner?
We usually don’t celebrate. (See my answer for question #1!) We’ll do something like go to a movie a few days before or after the actual “holiday” and say that’s how we’re celebrating.

7. What is your favourite flower?
Gerbera daisies for sure!

8. What is your favourite love story? (Book and/or movie.)
Movie-wise I think I’d have to say The Notebook. I haven’t read too many romance novels, so I don’t really know what my favourite book would be. I’m leaning towards Marley and Me. Rather unconventional, but it’s an amazing story of a man’s love for his dog. As a dog lover, I totally get it.

9. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you? Or you have done for someone?
Kyle and I aren’t really all that romantic, but I would say when he proposed to me it was the  most romantic thing he’s done. He bought a 1/2 dozen of my favourite cupcakes and when I told him he was the best boyfriend ever while eating one, he made me close my eyes because he had a surprise for me. I did, and then when he told me to open them he was down on one knee with the ring. With a mouth full of chocolate cupcake, I immediately started sobbing. I didn’t expect it at all!

10. How did you meet your spouse/significant other?
We originally met in Grade 2! Kyle had a huge crush on me ever since, and we used to have play dates when we were little. As we got older I never gave him the time of day, until one summer in high school when we hung out one evening and got drunk. (Classy, I know!) I’ll admit that I still didn’t have feeling towards him then, until a couple months into the school year when we were in cooking class together. We hung out again one night, and after he dropped me off, I regretted not kissing him goodnight. I told him that when I logged onto MSN Chat when I got home (because that’s how we got shit done back in the day), so he came back to meet me, I told me dad I dropped my keys and had to go find them, and we finally kissed. Almost 10 years later, we’re still together today!

1. How do you feel about Groundhog’s Day?
I’m rather neutral about it. In Canada, I find that winter lasts forever regardless of what a little rodent tells me. This Groundhog Day, my mind was concentrating more on my ultrasound that morning!

2. What color are your fingernails right now? (Bonus points if you include a picture.)
They are of no colour. I’m boring that way.

3. Do you like riddles?
Is this a riddle? (Bwahaha) They’re amusing, but I hate ones that really stump my brain. It hurts too much.

4. When you were 10, how old did you think “old” was? At your current age, how old do you think “old” is?
Probably someone my parents’ age, so 25. (Ouch, I know) Nowadays, I think 85 is old. Yeah, that seems like an old age.

5. Do you wish on stars?
I don’t. Does that make me a miserable person?

6. Do you recycle?
I do – Go me! We have curbside recycling, so it makes it a lot easier.

7. On a scale from 1-10, how good of a cook are you?
My husband says I’m a 6, with 1 being burnt frozen pizza and 10 being 5-star gourmet dining. I’ll take it!

8. Do you color your hair? Professionally or at home?
I don’t! I used to in high school, and I don’t think I have since maybe three years ago.

9. One a scale from 1-10, how do you rate your manners?
Around other people (AKA, people in public) I’d give my manners a 7. At home, they fail. Kyle says I’m a “classy dame”, which is code for disgusting slob. Ha!

10. Who are the last 5 people you have texted?
My husband, my mom, my dad, my brother, and one of my three girl friends (though I can’t remember which one exactly and I’m too lazy to get up and check my phone.

Ten on Tuesday

I’m so happy that ToT is back, but I’m not giving Chelsea any flack for not hosting for a couple weeks. I totally don’t blame her one tiny little bit.

Anyway, here are today’s questions, brought to you by yours truly!

1. What’s your favourite variety of apple?
I would have to say gala apples, or most thin-skinned apples. I hate Granny Smith and thick-skinned apples like red delicious. Blech.

2. Do you prefer Long-English or Field cucumbers?
Long English. I hate all the seeds in the field cucumbers, although those are the only ones we can seems to grow well here.

3. Tomatoes – Delicious or disgusting?
I’m tomato neutral. I’ll eat them if they’re cooked, in a sandwich, or in Greek salad (basically, I’ll eat them if they’re prepared in some way), but I won’t eat them just on their own.

4. What’s one fruit or vegetable that you can’t stand and why is that?
Right now it’s bell peppers because pregnancy has made me intolerable of the smell. I’ve also really tried to enjoy eggplant, but I just can’t seem to do it. It’s just yucky.

5. What’s your favourite way to prepare veggies? (Grilled, boiled, roasted, sautéed, etc.)
In the summer I loved grilled veggies, especially on kabobs. Sautéed is probably a close runner up.

6. Sweet potato pie: Love it or hate it?
I’ve never had it, but I do love sweet potato fries!

7. What’s your favourite “style” of French fry? Wedges, shoelace, curly, crinkle-cut or other?
Definitely curly fries! Wedges are pretty darn good too, but nothing beats curly fries!

8. What’s your favourite fruit-pie filling?
I love me some cherry pie, especially if the cherries are a bit sour. Rhubarb-strawberry is my next favourite. And make both a la mode!

9. When you were a kid did your parents make you sit at the table until all your veggies were eaten off your plate?
No, but they usually made me sit there until I ate “just three more bites.” I used to actually “sneak” my unwanted veggies onto my Grandpa’s plate. (He always knew what I was doing!) To this day I still don’t eat all the vegetables off my plate! If I can get away with it I’ll toss them onto Kyle’s plate.

10. Do you drink veggie & fruit juice blends (such as V8, etc.) or make them yourself?
I am much too lazy to make my own blends. My blender is so huge and annoying to clean, so I rarely break it out. I buy cases of V8 Veggie/Fruit blends. Tastes like fruit, but there’s lots of veggies in it. Win-win!
