Ten (+5!) on Tuesday

Borrowed from the lovely Roots & Rings blog!

1. If you could change anything about your physical appearance, what would it be?
Probably my complexion. I break-out quite often and I’m really self conscious about it. It was really bad in high school and I was made fun of a bit. One girl asked me if I had chicken pox; it was horrible.

2. Is there a habit in others that you find annoying?
People who are always late really annoy me. I’m always early for everything because I can’t stand being late. Yeah.

3. What is your favorite recipe using ground beef?
Probably spaghetti. I looooove pasta but spaghetti has been my favourite since I was little. Next would be lasagna (again, pasta!)

4. What was your favourite book as a kid?
I loved James and the Giant Peach. My Grade 3 teacher read it to us and it was fabulous. I also really like The Secret Garden and anything by Robert Munsch.

5. Did you work as a teenager and if so, where?
My first summer jobs (Yes, I had two of them) was at a gift shop that sold a lot of fine gemstone jewelry, trinkets and whatnot, and an Chinese restaurant. I was a sales associate (I guess that’s what you’d call me) at the gift shop and a bus girl at the restaurant. I think I liked the restaurant more because it was less boring and I got tips! Cash in your hand was amazing as a teenager!

I also worked at an amazing farm/market/restaurant. They’ve changed hands since I’ve worked there and it hasn’t really been the same. I worked in the kitchen, dishing out homemade sandwiches, huge ice cream cones, and to-die-for soup. The original owners were amazingly down to earth.

6.  Did you work while in college and if so, where?
I worked at the farm for one summer in between 1st and 2nd year and then I got a job at Save On Foods. I worked there for about 2 1/2 years before I left for a summer job at Highland Valley Copper as a student labourer. That job was FUN! I went back to Save On after that job was done and worked there until I graduated university :)

Me, just “hanging” out! I worked with the Mine Rescue Team for a week while
they trained for their big Mine Rescue competition! This was probably
the most memorable part of working at HVC for the summer!

7. When you go to sleep do you like  total darkness or semi? When you go to sleep do you need quiet or is some noise ok?
I usually like near darkness. It doesn’t have to be pitch black but I like not having light shining in my eyes. Of course, if I’m tired enough, it doesn’t matter. Same with noise; I haaaate repeatative noises, like clocks ticking or water dripping, but if I’m tired enough, I could sleep with a t.v. on or something similar.

8. When doing laundry, fabric softener or not?
I don’t buy Downy or anything like that, but I use Bounce sheets or something similar (like no-name brand). I always use great detergent though!

9. Open toed or closed toed shoes?
I don’t really have a preference. I actually live in flip-flops in the summer and warm snuggly Uggs (well, knock-offs) in the winter.

10. Would you rather be blind or deaf?
I think I would rather be deaf than blind, although both are awful. I could still see and get around on my own and enjoy life. Not being able to hear music would suck, but I’d pull a Beethoven and create amazing music instead – without the whole “going crazy” thing.

11. Dangle or stud earrings?
Neither – my lobes are stretched to 1/2″ so I wear plugs and such! A lot of people have said to me, “Well, what are you going to do when you’re older and you wished you never stretched your ears?” Trust me, I thought about that long before I hit the “no going back” point. If anything, I’ll hang my cane from my ears when I’m 90. :D

12. Bottled water or tap?
At home we have a Britta water filter jug, so technically, it’s tap water. Kamloops has an amazing water processing plant, so the water is actually decent to drink straight from the tap.

13. What do you put on pancakes?
Butter and maple syrup! Man, that makes me want blueberry pancakes …

14. On a long trip would you rather drive or fly?
First, you have to define “long.” I don’t mind driving a few hours to get to where I need to go, but flying is a lot of fun. Basically, if it’s going to take me longer to drive somewhere than it is to fly, then I’d fly. But – driving is fun because you can stop and enjoy the scenery.

15. Do you prefer classic old movies or new?
I really enjoy both. I really like some of John Wayne’s old films, but new ones like The Dark Knight and such are sure to be classics eventually. I can already imagine nagging at my grandchildren that a certain movie they discovered actually came out when I was their age.
“You know, back in my daaaay, we had to drive or walk to get to where we wanted to go! We didn’t have teleportation vessels! Be more appreciative, you little buggers … “

Ten on Tuesday

It’s always lovely when I can’t think of anything to blog about that there’s an amazing group of bloggers out there for me to gather ideas from. I found this Ten on Tuesday post from Amber, and be sure to go check out her awesome blog!

1. Are you usually late, early, or right on time?
Early! I’m usually 15 minutes early for everything. Being late drives me insane and I get really anxious if I know I’m going to be late.

2. What is your middle name?
Michele; It’s not after a family member or anything, it’s just something my parents could agree on. My first name was almost Billie, but my mom vetoed that. (Thank God!)

3. What are the last 4 digits of your cell phone number?
5418

4. How big is your bed?
Queen, although I’d really like a King-size! Kyle and I slept on one a couple years ago at the Hyatt and it was amazing! There were no issues with hogging the bed :P

5. What are you allergic to?
Cats, which is depressing because I really want one. I’m usually okay if they stay away from my face. Oh, and then there’s the fun seasonal allergies. Annnnd sometimes crab makes my face itch.

6. What is the first thing you do in the morning?
After assassinating my alarm clock, it’s shower time!

7. What was your favourite TV show growing up?
I watched A LOT of television when I was little, but my top three favourites would be Beast Wars, Reboot and Mr. Dress-Up.

8. Will you, or did you, go to your 10 year high school reunion?
I haven’t had one yet, but I doubt my grad class will even organize one. It wouldn’t be hard though, considering there was only about 25 of us!

9. If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?
I’m sure it does.

10. What, in your opinion, is the greatest invention? (You know, since sliced bread…)

Probably the Internet. I think it’s made us more aware of the rest of the world.

Ten on Tuesday

So I may be a Blog stalker, but I’m really trying to make this lame-o blog of my a bit better. Heck, I’m thinking I may even rename it. Who knows. I do a lot of these survey-like questionnaires on Facebook but dear Amber has some nice little shorts ones. Today, I present to you Ten on Tuesday, which Amber got from Roots and Rings.

1. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I really wanted to be a veterinarian but then I changed my mind and wanted to be a doctor, then a pyrotechnician then a marketing specialist then a journalist. I didn’t decide on a career until half-way through my first year of university! I was in the Business degree program at TRU but had Journalism as a back-up plan. It’s a good thing too, I was horrible at figuring out economics.

2. Name 3 of your irrational fears.
  1. Having the wind pick up a tree and hurdling it into my house. Needless to say, I’m afraid of windstorms.
  2. Spiders. Just thinking about them gives me the heebie jeebies. I can kill the little tiny ones but I can’t get within 3-feet of the bigger ones. (Think anything bigger than a pencil eraser)
  3. Semi trucks and trailers. I hate passing them, I’m terrified of merging in next to them and I really don’t enjoy it when there’s one in front of me and one behind me.
3. If you had a $200 gift card for any store, what would you want it to be? (Nothing responsible allowed. Can’t be used for groceries or anything.)
Lululemon! I would only be able to buy one pair of pants and one sweater, but I love that store! Kamloops needs one!

4. What is your most (blog-friendly) embarrassing moment?
Being so drunk I was delerious in front of Kyle’s best friend’s parents. It’s a good thing they’re easy going.

5. If you were only allowed to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Carbs. I love pasta and rice to death. I know a lot isn’t good for me, but it’s delicious.

6. What was your favourite toy growing up?
Probably my Fischer-Price kitchen. I had that and a McDonald’s add-on for it with a visor and drive-thru headset. It was amazing. I used to put my cat in the “oven” though … Oops.

7. Do you have a “go to” outfit? What is it?
My Gap jeans, a comfy shirt, my TRU sweater and my Uggs. I’ve had my Gap jeans for three years now and they are still perfect! I guess that’s why they were so expensive.

8. Who was the best teacher you ever had?
Mrs. Russell-Martin for grade 3 and 4. She made learning fun and she has such an outgoing personality. Ms. Gould, my grade 12 English teacher was amazing too. She had a passion for literature and proper grammar.

9. If you could buy any car right now (something at least SORT OF within the realm of reality…so, you know, a Rolls Royce may not qualify), what would it be?
I’d love a Volkswagen Jetta or Golf TDI. The new models are sharp looking and they’re quite zippy. I do love my car though. It’s quite lovely.

10. How do you reckon that Chelsea comes up with 10 of these questions every week? It was hard! What’s your theory on how she’s so creative? Are you going to help her?
I have no idea. I know I certainly couldn’t do it.
