Ten on Tuesday

1. Do you listen to the radio in your car?  If so, what type of station do you like?

I hardly ever listen to the radio, but when I do, I usually listen to either the local rock station or it’s sister-station, the “at work” station (which plays more Top 40 stuff).

2. What is the best concert you have ever attended?

I haven’t been to many concerts really, but I’ll say Sam Roberts. I was right in the front on the floor and he was SO GOOD in concert! The best thing? I won the tickets so it didn’t cost me a dime! Awesomeness.

3. What is the most embarrassing concert you have ever attended?

I don’t think I’ve been to any embarrassing concerts. When I was in Grade 5 I went to the Backstreet Boys. That was amazing.

4. If you could have the singing voice of anyone in the world, who would it be?

Adele. Seriously. Her voice is so smooth and jazzy. Love it.

5. You’re auditioning for American Idol.  What song do you sing?

Something random. Maybe I’ll rap and then bust into a ballad. That’ll get me rejected in a hurry I think.

6. If your previous weekend had its own soundtrack, what would be a few of the songs?

I don’t think my weekend is worthy of a soundtrack, unless there’s a song about being sober at the bar, buying a new vacuum cleaner or grocery shopping. “Volvo-Driving Soccer Mom” may fit the bill a little.

7. Most annoying television show theme song ever:

There’s one show that comes on after the local morning news called “Foodies” and it’s ANNOYING. Like, leap across the room to change the channel annoying.

8. Are you and your significant other music-compatible?

Not really. He likes bands like Metalica and the like, I enjoy everything. He thinks the music on my iPod right now songs like rave music. (It doesn’t!)

9. A song that brings me back to middle school:

“Last Resort” by Papa Roach. I didn’t have middle school, but it does bring me back to Grade 9.

10. A song that brings me back to high school:

That annoying Aerosmith song, “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”. Ugh. Barftastic.

11. A guilty pleasure song (or three):

Anything by Lonely Island. Oh the hilarity!

1. What do you do for a living?
Official title? Editorial Assistant. So – I assist the editorial department with tasks and stuff they don’t necessarily have time to do. Like answering the phone at lightning speed, keeping our community calendar up to date, and typesetting random tidbits. And – when the time comes, I’ll fill in as a reporter when there’s a shortage in the newsroom. (Squeee!)

2. What’s your favourite thing about your job?
How fulfilling it is. Sure, it’s not exactly what I went to school for, but it’s one step closer, and that’s all that matters right now. And the people I work with are all awesome.

3. What’s your least favourite thing about your job?
Trying to read people’s horrible cursive. Seriously. I wouldn’t make a good pharmacist because I can’t read scribbley writing.

4. If you weren’t a ____________, what would you be?
If I weren’t an editorial assistant, I would be a classified clerk still. Or a cashier at a grocery store. Or a ninja. :)

5. What is something that you would love to get paid for that you think no one would every pay you for?
Staying at home and doing nothing. Obviously!

6. If you could have any job for exactly one day, what would it be?
One of the Food Network show hosts, where they travel around and eat amazing food all day. Yes please!

7. If you had to do manual labour, what would you do?
I’d follow in Kyle’s footsteps and become a welder. I’d do it, but I’m afraid of the cutting torch. I’m pretty sure I’d hurt myself.

8. What is something you were forced to learn in high school that was supposed to be super important, but you never actually use?
Math. Hate it. I need a calculator or my brain frazzles. I can’t do math to save my life.

9. Who was your favourite boss?  Why?
Seriously, I have to pick favourites? Lame! I’ll go with my boss from the farm market I worked at. She was an amazing woman and could cook like you wouldn’t believe! And she was so kind-hearted and honest. I actually ran into her the other day and it was great to see her and catch up!

10. Where would you rather work: Dunder Mifflin Paper Company (The Office), Wernham Hogg Paper Company (The Office, UK), or Initech (Office Space)?
I haven’t watched any of those shows! Baaad me! But – I’ll go with Wernham Hogg, only because their accents would amuse me for days. ;)

1. Mac or Windows? (Or Linux for you super geeks!)

At home I use Windows, and I think that’s my OS of choice. At work I use a Mac, and it’s old and slow. In fact, every Mac I’ve ever used has been old and/or slow, so I’m a little jaded I guess. Maybe if I used a hipper version (Snow Leopard? Liger?) my mind would be changed.

2. What drew you to that operating system?

Tried and true! My first home computer had good ol’ Windows ’95. My grandparents had a computer with Windows ’93 and DOS. Yes, DOS.

3. Mice – Wireless or Wired? Mouse pad or none?

Wireless! My mouse is always everywhere. Coffee table – couch arm, where ever! I love me some wirelessness. And no to the mouse pad too. At work my mouse “pad” is a piece of scrap paper.

4. Other than the Internet – What do you use your computer most for?

Typing, typing, typing! I’m a freelance and I work at a newspaper, so all I do it Word it up.

5. What’s one computer-related thing you wish you were best at? (CSS, Photoshop, Excel, etc.)

Definitely CSS or web design. My blog desperately needs a face lift. Everytime I do it myself I’m never satisfied with the end result. I just need to bite the bullet one day and hire someone to do it.

6. Describe the first time you ever used a computer.

I think I was in Grade 1 or 2 and our classroom had an Apple computer in it. We could play spelling games with good ol’ 8″ floppy disks. (Remember those things? What’s a floppy disk, you say?) Ah, those were the days.

7. How often do you upgrade to a new operating system?

Only when I buy a new computer and it’s loaded with the hottest, latest thing. I have Windows Vista right now and haven’t bothered to upgrade to Windows 7. Really, I haven’t had any problems with Vista. I don’t know why people hate on it so much. At my old job my Mac “Tiger” OS was upgraded to “Snow Leopard” and it was the most amazing thing ever.

8. Are you a short-cutter (CTRL+C) or a right-clicker?

Definitely a short-cutter.

9. Is computer-use a constant thing in your life (such as using it both at work and home) or do you get a break (because you don’t use them at work)?

I’m constantly on a computer for the majority of the day. I use it at home to do freelance work and to blog (duh!) and at work to do my work. (Duh duh!) Sometimes it’s nice to just unplug for a day though. It really helps my (seemingly) rapidly deteriorating eyesight, I’m sure.

10. Where do you think the world would be if personal computers did not exist?

Definitely. I don’t think we’d be as aware of global issues. The term “Global community” comes to mind. We’d be much more disconnected from people across the world. A major event, like the tsunami in Japan or the famine in Somalia, wouldn’t have as great an impact because we cannot see them for ourselves on our own terms. Sure, the media would project the issues to us, but with personal computers, we can explore them on our own. Ya know?

Now go participate, link up on Chelsea’s page, and thank her for posting the above ToT questions – brought to you by yours truly!
