Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

I stumbled across this post by Krysten and figured, “Ah, why not?!”

What is your favourite TV show that’s on Netflix?
Right now I’m re-watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix (Isla LOVES it and asks to watch all the time, lol). But for Netflix originals, I love Orange is the New Black and can’t wait to start watching season 3 when it starts! Just remind me to pace myself so I don’t watch the entire series in 2 days :P

Dogs or cats? Why?
Dogs, all the way. For one, I’m allergic to cats, so I can’t necessarily bond with them. And I find cats to be temperamental divas. Not that dogs can’t be – it’s just that cats are more, “I love you! I HATE YOU.”

What’s your favourite colour?
I think it’s safe to say that purple is my favourite colour right now. Isla’s rooms (her old nursery/the baby’s room and her current room) are accented in purple, and I find myself drawn to the colour. Yellow is also my “happy” colour

What is your go-to drink?
If we’re talking non-alcoholic, I generally order iced tea or Sprite/7-Up in restaurants. At Starbucks I usually get a Vanilla Latte (iced or hot), or a Passion Tea Lemonade. If we’re getting boozy, I generally go for Caesars or vodka-7’s, but honestly, I haven’t had a drink in so long that I don’t know what my go-to alcoholic beverage is.

What is your favourite type of social media?
I lean heavily towards Instagram when I post anything, mostly because from there I post to Facebook and Twitter at the same time. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I posted anything on Twitter that wasn’t related to an Instagram post as well.

When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
I’m certain I wanted to be a dentist at first, and then at some point in elementary school that switched to a veterinarian. In high school I wanted to be a pyrotechnician (random, right?), and then that switched to a career in either Marketing or Journalism.

Tell me 5 things that make you happy.
My family, sunny days/warm weather, puppies, cupcakes, lake days.

How old were you when you had your first kiss? Tell us about it!
My first kiss (on the lips) was when I was in Grade 7, after our “prom.” It was forced and awkward and overall just weird.
What is your favourite thing about the blog world?
That you can be as honest or as vague as you like and no one seems to mind. On Facebook if you’re vague people get all, “Oh, she just wants attention,” or if you’re honest you get attacked for being honest. Not that this doesn’t happen in the blog world, but I think it just happens less. And I love how you can connect with so many different types of people from all over the country/continent/world!

So there you go! I’m supposed to nominate people as well, but like Krysten, I’ll just let anyone who wants to participate copy, paste & answer the following 10 questions on their blog:

1) If you could instantly be amazingly talent in a specific area (art, sports, skills, etc.), what would you choose?
2) You’re stranded on a deserted island with only three things – what are they?
3) Did you have names picked out for your future children when you were a kid? Are you still certain about them today?
4) Cake, cupcakes, or cake pops?
5) Gilmore Girls fans: Chris, Max, Jason, or Luke for Lorelei?
6) You have just $2000 to travel to anywhere it takes you – where do you go?
7) What colour polish do you gravitate towards when you get a pedicure/manicure?
8) Mixing Play-Doh colours – totally acceptable or the 8th deadly sin?
9) You find a $100 bill just laying on the ground – what do you do with it?
10) In your mind, what makes it “officially” summer?

q & a time

1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Other than curse my alarm and go to the bathroom, I let Daphne out for a pee (Campbell is lazy and doesn’t like to get out of bed), and then make my coffee.

2. What do you eat for breakfast?

6 days of out 7, it’s usually cereal. Kyle swears I have a cereal addiction. Sometimes I’ll throw him off his game and have eggs & toast.

3. What’s your go-to weeknight meal?

If I’m super stumped, I usually thaw out some spaghetti sauce (I always make way too much and freeze the left over sauce), boil some kind of short pasta (bowtie, rotini, etc.), mix it together in a casserole dish, top it with shredded cheese and bake it in the oven at 350°C for about 40 minutes. We call it spaghetti casserole or goulash, and it’s so easy and yummy! (I add Frank’s Red Hot sauce on mine.)

4. Do you do any kind of journaling or memory keeping?

I don’t, really. I have a little memory book for Isla to write down all her milestones and memories up to when she’s three, but that’s about it. I rely mostly on old photos and Facebook to remember past events.

5. How do you fix your coffee, or do you prefer tea (or neither)?

My coffee gets 2 teaspoons of sugar and a good dose of French vanilla-flavoured creamer until it’s the perfect shade of beige. For my tea, if it’s regular orange pekoe, I let it steep for at least 10 minutes, then add 2 teaspoons of sugar and a splash of milk. Any other type of tea usually just gets a teaspoon of sugar or honey, no milk.

6. What’s the last good book you read?

Probably The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. While it was a tough read emotionally, it was really good.

7. If you had a day all to yourself with no schedule, how would you spend it?

Reading, napping, and maybe getting a pedicure. A day to myself would be a dream!

8. What are three things on your life list?

I’m really not too sure what a life list is supposed to consist of, but I’ll say that happiness, good health, and love are on mine. Easy enough, no?

9. When you really need to relax or de-stress, where do you go and what do you do?

I started going to yoga about 9 months ago, and I must say, I really love how it makes me feel mentally. It’s only about an hour long, but I really appreciate how much I’m able to relax and recenter my thoughts. I usually come out of class rejuvenated and feeling great.

10. What’s on your nightstand?

Nothing, other than at night when I have my phone and baby monitor plugged in. Isla steals everything off of it otherwise! But, way up high on the dresser beside my nightstand is a box of Kleenex and my Chapstick.

11. What’s the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Thanks to Kathleen for tagging me in this fun little post! I’m not going to tag anyone in specific to do it, so feel free to just copy & paste my questions below and just link back!

My questions:

1. What movie could you watch over and over again and not get tired of?

2. Company is coming over for dinner – what’s your go-to meal to impress your guests

3. What’s your favourite summertime drink? (Boozy or not!)

4. What would the exterior of your dream house look like?

5. What is the craziest food you’ve dared to eat?

6. Are you a sun worshiper or shade-seeker?

7. If you have $1,000,000 to donate to any cause that you wanted, which would it be?

8. What song do you currently find yourself singing along to at the top of your lungs while in the car?

9. It’s date night: Where do you and your significant other go for dinner? (If you’re single – what’s your favourite dinner spot?)

10. If practicality (and money) wasn’t an issue, what kind of vehicle would you love to own?

A Christmas Q&A

I’ve seen this circulating around the blogosphere and figured I’d make today’s post into the “obligatory” Christmas post!
1. egg nog or hot chocolate?
I used to like egg nog, but I’m more partial to hot chocolate these days! Hot white chocolate is even better!
2. does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
My Santa doesn’t slack off – he wraps his presents! Where’s the surprise otherwise!?
3. multi-colored or white lights on tree/house?
Multi-coloured all the way. Right now we just have them on our tree – next year we’ll put lights up outside.
4. do you hang mistletoe?
We had a fake sprig of it when I was little but I have no idea what happened to it. I find mistletoe to be rather awkward.
5. when do you put up decorations?
I like to try and get my decorations out of storage by the beginning of December, and I usually decorate the first weekend of December.
6. what is your favorite holiday dish?
Definitely the stuffing. My mom’s stuffing, to be specific.
7. favorite holiday memory as a child.
I always loved waking up to see that Santa had eaten all the cookies and drank the milk I left out for him, and that the reindeer had eaten the carrots I left for them. Although now I’m more than certain that my parents may have helped ;)
8. when did you learn the truth about Santa?
The class bully told me he wasn’t real. He’s still a jerk to this day!
9. do you open a gift on Christmas eve?
When I was little we always opened a present from my grandparents which was ALWAYS Christmas pajamas. We don’t open gifts on Christmas Eve anymore though, unless we’re celebrating with family that day. With four Christmases, it’s bound to happen!
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
With lights, garland, beads and ornaments of all shapes, weights and sizes! I always have to find a sturdy tree because some of my ornaments are really heavy!
11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
I would say I’m tolerant of it. Since I live in a relatively snowy area of Canada (no – not all of Canada gets a lot of snow!) you learn to deal with it. I do love watching it fall though!
12. Can you ice skate?
I haven’t in ages, but I’m sure if I put a pair of skates on I could figure it out again. It’s like riding a bike, right? Once you learn once you know forever?
13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
I think when I got my very first cellphone I was pretty excited. Other than that, I can’t remember!
14. What’s the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Being with family and the ones I love.
15. What is your favourite holiday dessert?
Definitely cheesecake!
16. what is your favourite holiday tradition?
Driving around and looking at all the Christmas lights, and watching Christmas movies all night long.

17. what tops your tree?

An angel.
18. which do you prefer: giving or receiving?
I like both! I love watching people open the gifts I give them and who doesn’t like receiving a little something in return :)
19. candy canes. yucky or yummy?
I’m not a huge fan actually.
20. favorite Christmas show?
A Muppet Family Christmas and now – Die Hard :)
21. saddest Christmas song?
I’ve always found “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” to be super depressing.
22. favorite Christmas song?
Baby It’s Cold Outside!
So Happy Holidays to all my amazing blog readers! I hope Christmas sees you well and merry!
