Listy Friday

What the hell? How is it February already? Apparently I kept myself busy in January because where it went is BEYOND me.

Anyway, here’s today’s random list of pointless ramblings:

– I went out last night for a couple hours ALL BY MYSELF. Which means, Kyle stayed at home with Isla. Well, his mom was with him to help, but still – I WAS BY MYSELF! And it was glorious! There was an alumni event for the journalism school folks and it was actually a lot of fun! It was great to see old classmates and to just have a good time baby-free. There were some keynote speakers, including a certain someone, who talked about blogging, social media and journalism today and it was interesting to hear their thoughts.

– I would like to take a moment to bitch and complain about the TAG IN THIS SHIRT THAT I’M WEARING THAT’S DRIVING ME INSANE RIGHT NOW. And it’s Kyle’s shirt so I’m not even authorized to cut it out. UGH.

– I’ve been getting creative in the kitchen lately with some great successes! Of course, I have Pinterest to thank for most of the meals, but they’ve been a hit with Kyle so I’m pretty stoked about it. And of course, I’ve sucked at documenting my meals. Anyway, I’ve made this broccoli mac & cheese and these cilantro & lime chicken tacos and they were so tasty!

– Isla only has two swimming lessons left! As much as public pools still creep me out, I’m going to miss going swimming with her. Who knows, maybe I’ll buy a pass so we can go more often. She probably won’t go back for lessons again until the fall.

– My Jo Totes camera bag arrived and it is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! The photo certainly doesn’t do the colour of this bag any justice, but loooook at it’s prettiness:

– I could care less about the Superbowl this weekend. Football doesn’t interest me in the slightest, but I’ll say go 49ers since San Francisco won the World Series.

– It’s now naptime in my house. I suppose that’s it for this post.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Listy Friday

– We dunked our babies under the water for the first time during swimming lessons on Tuesday. It went over relatively well and Isla didn’t seem to mind too much – She just had this, “What the hell just happened???” look on her face after the first couple dunks. Then, on Thursday, we did some more dunking and it didn’t go so well. She had this shocked look and then tears started flowing. She stop crying just in time for another dunk by the instructor. And – more tears. Poor girl. I blame the fact that we had a substitute instructor. Our regular girl is SO much better, so I’m hoping she’s back on Tuesday.

– I bought a new camera bag from Jo Totes! Actually – I bought a new bag because I bought a beautiful new 50mm f/1.8 lens and my current camera bag is now just a smidge too small for all my gear! So, I ordered this beauty:

Isn’t she pretty? I can’t wait for it to arrive!

– The NHL is back! Yaaaaay! For someone who isn’t at all interested in basketball or football, this is FANTASTIC news! Lockouts are such a downer, so I’m stoked to be cheering on my Canucks again. Isla is too:

– I started pumping with hopes to wean Isla. She just doesn’t seem that interested in nursing these days so I think it may be time. She’ll have a little “snack” after her three meals of solid foods  (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and only really wants the boob before she goes to bed. So – for those mama’s who read my blog – any tips? I’m pumping mostly because my boobs are ready to explode most of the time. Don’t even think about giving me a hug. That just hurts too much.

– There’s been a lot of hate going on towards pit bulls right now and it makes me so sad. I wish people were better informed about the breed and didn’t take everything they read and see in the media as the “end all, be all” for the dogs.

– On a lighter note, we gave Campbell a bath the other day and he smells sooooo good! His hair clogged the drain and now she’s shedding like crazy, but still – He’s such a handsome boy now!

Listy Friday

– Isla started swimming lessons this week and she LOVES THEM. Seriously – This kid was born to swim! I was so nervous that she wasn’t going to like it and it was going to be a disaster, but it went great and she loves kicking, splashing and “singing” songs. I’m so glad I got her signed up :) Kyle has one of her swim days off next week, so he’ll be coming to watch with the camera in tow :)

– In other swimming related news, there’s this little “bubble” pool where all the moms wait for their lessons to start. We were all chilling out waiting for our instructor and the woman sitting beside me with her son says to him, “Oh, are you hungry?” and just whips out her boob and starts nursing him. THEN his lessons had started so she just mosies on down to her group while still nursing him. I was a little flabbergasted. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not against public nursing, but the mom was so nonchalant about whipping her boob out. I’m so boob shy, so you’ll never catch me doing that. I like my privacy!

– Our guest bedroom is FINALLY back to a normal colour, 14 months later. It used to look like this:

Now it’s back to a nice, neutral beige-tan colour. Yay! We just have to touch up the trim and it will be all done! I also think the bedding needs an update as well. Campbell ate the bedskirt, and the comforter is just a little dingy.

– My mom’s house sold, so now she’s going to be moving down to the “valley” area of Kamloops. I’m bummed that she’s no longer going to be a couple minutes away, but oh well. They move out on Feb. 15 and Kyle and I are “inheriting” Adirondak chairs, a fireplace and a beer fridge. Yay for stuff!

– I bought an avocado for Isla to try but she wasn’t so keen on it. Since I only mashed up 1/2 for her, I saved the other half for myself and put it on my green salad. I forgot how delicious avocado is on salad and I must, MUST go buy more :) Kyle thinks they’re gross, but he’s weird.

– I recently started playing Word With Friends again after a wee bit of a hiatus/forgetting it was on my phone. (Wanna play? I’m karakins14) Kyle and I are losers and play against each other while we sit next to each other on the couch. Also? We have a perfectly good Scrabble board in our hall closet. So, to encourage us to play real Scrabble more I bought us the Official Scrabble Dictionary off of Amazon.ca. His mom has one and it’s the best go-to dictionary for Scrabble, so I’m excited to have our own copy. Nerds, much?

– I’m pretty freakin’ boring these days. Womp womp.
