Listy Friday

– I hope everyone had a wonderful and not too spooky Halloween yesterday! Isla had a fun first Halloween experience yesterday, that’s for sure! The mall here does indoor trick or treating with the majority of the stores for the kids who want to stay warm and dry, so with a donation to the local food bank Isla scored some nice candy! She was a little skeptical of everyone walking around and was a little shy going up to some of the store attendant for her candy, but overall she had a good time. By the last few stores, she was getting a little cranky. But, here’s some photos!

– Somehow I managed to accumulate 4 pumpkins to carve up. Kyle was nice enough to gut them out for me (he wanted the seeds for roasting) so all I had to do was carve them. I got marginally more creative than I usually do, but they’re nothing spectacular. My favourite is probably my Jack Skeleton-esque pumpkin, followed by my polka-dot drill bit Pinterest-inspired pumpkin. (Which made a huge mess, by the way.)

– Kyle and I leave for Vegas SOOOO soon but it hasn’t really hit me yet. I’m sure once I drop Isla off at my Mom’s it will hit me and I’ll have a mild anxiety attack. But, I am excited to be going! We have a lot of stuff on our “To Do” list, including visiting the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, shooting some fully automatic rifles, and the Cheesecake Factory. Of course, I’m pretty certain you could be there for a week and not do everything, so here’s to hoping we get some things crossed off our list.

– Now that Halloween is all out of the way, I’m getting geared up to take Christmas photos of Isla for our Christmas cards. It’s a little sad (in a pathetic way) that I’m already doing it, but after last year’s screw-up when ordering them, I’m not risking it this year. So, this afternoon I’m hoping to get the photos done, and next week I’m hoping to get them ordered!

– I started reading “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed this week and I’m only about 2 chapters in but loving it! Amber had posted on Facebook that Reese Witherspoon was staring in the movie version, so I knew I had to get reading it soon!  It’s been on my Wishlist for a while now, so I figured it was the perfect time to download it to my Kobo.

– Isla has discovered television. She enjoys just sitting on the couch or standing at the coffee table and watching cartoons. She usually loses interest after a 1/2 hour or less, but I will admit to plunking her in front of it for 5 minutes of peace so I can get something done. She also has developed some kind of post-afternoon nap grumps where she just wants to cuddle on the couch with Kyle or I, which is challenging since that’s when I’m usually trying to get dinner finished. I don’t know if it’s because she’s hungry for her dinner, but wow – that kid sure knows how to throw a spaz.

– I believe I can officially say that Isla is off the bottle. I must admit, it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Our new bedtime routine is brush teeth, bath (when it’s bath night), PJ’s, sip of water, book, bed. She hasn’t protested at all and still sleeps right through the night until 8ish. No complaining from this mom!

– I’ve been going to yoga for just over a month now and I must admit, I’m really loving it! It helps that our instructor is super supportive and gives us great feedback and reassurance too. I love how that for one hour, I can just refocus all of my thoughts off of everything else going on in my life and just stretch and relax. I’m definitely going to look into taking more classes in the future.

– I’m getting a manicure tomorrow at my favourite spa ever and hoping that it doesn’t chip before we go to Vegas. Fingers crossed! (Pun intended)

That’s it for this Friday! Have a great weekend! xo

Listy Friday

I know, it’s been almost 3 weeks since I last posted anything. But, I did write this post on Tuesday, so at least it’s a start, right? Right!

Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

– More freelance work! I had a nice little week-long break and then I was contacted do to some more business writing. I must say, the little income I’ve been making through all this freelance writing work is really helping me feel better about not going back into the work force. I can still stay at home with Isla, but I can work in my pajamas! Annnd, thanks to all this freelance work, Kyle and I are able to …

– Go to Vegas! Actually, we’ve been planning to go for a while, but with the amount of work I’ve been doing our plane tickets and hotel are basically paid for. Woo! We’re going mid-November for 4ish days (5 technically, but we leave super early on the last day) with friends and we’re all super stoked!

– Of course, with this trip to Vegas, it will also be our first kid-free trip ever. I’m a little stressed out over it, and I know it’s not going to be easy for both Isla and I, but I know she’ll be in good hands. My mom is watching her for the majority of the trip, and Kyle’s mom is taking her for the last night. I’m hoping she transitions really well and doesn’t even notice that we’re gone, so fingers crossed.

– I’m slowly weaning Isla off of her bedtime bottle and so far, so good. I’ve gradually worked down to 3oz of milk from 8oz, and tonight I’m going to take the big step and go bottle less. My plan is to give her a bath, read her a book or two, give her a few sips of water from her cup, and then put her right to bed. I know it’s going to be a bit of a battle since we’re both so dependant on the warm milk + rocking for sleep, but I’m determined to do it before we go on our trip.

– Last weekend Kyle and I headed to our hometown to visit my grandpa, and also to attend a birthday party for our friend’s 3-year-old. Isla had so much fun at the party! Our friend’s mom is the principal of the elementary school, so she was able to open up the gymnasium for them and the party was in there. So convenient! Isla ran around playing with all the ball and hula hoops – she didn’t seem to care what Kyle and I were doing. I think she played for about 4-hours straight, only taking a break for dinner and cake, and even with all that sugar in her system, she fell asleep instantly on the truck-ride home.

– I know a lot of people have a major heart-on for fall. I wouldn’t say I’m one of them, but I am enjoying the cooler weather and the ability to bundle up with layers. I’ve busted out my scarf collection for the fall/winter and couldn’t be happier. With Halloween also just around the corner, my mom and I are taking Isla to the pumpkin patch tomorrow for some fun. I already have three pumpkins to carve, so whether I grab another one is up in the air. Pumpkin seeds are delicious, so we’ll see ;)

– I think that’s about it for now. I swear I’ll try and update more often. I’m planning a book review for sometime next week, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Listy Friday

– I have a 13-month-old. What? It seems like her birthday was just the other day. Where did the time go? How is it already August? I don’t even know. I decided that I’m no longer going to do monthly Isla updates and photos. Not that she isn’t growing and doing new things every day, because she is. For instance, she has 5 teeth now and is cutting two more at this moment. I feel bad for her mouth. She’s also not walking yet, but that’s OK. I can’t seem to keep up with Hurricane Isla, so her walking only spells more trouble for me!

– I have started watching season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix. Goodbye, productivity. Hello lost years of television!

– I took a drive to check out the Chinese cemetery in Kamloops. It’s in an odd location but the area is really interesting. I didn’t get a shot of the tombstones, but there’s rows and rows of them up a little hill to the right of the entrance. It’s sad to see that it’s in such rough shape though.

– We’ve had a little “break” from the heat wave lately. It’s been a nice 30°C instead of the 40°C we’ve been having. Seriously. Except the wasps also seem to like the “cooler” weather, because they’re out with a vengeance. I had grand plans of setting up a little splash play time with Isla on the lawn, but the wasps were so bad that we had to relocate onto the deck. It was hotter up there, but Isla still had fun.

– While I’m sad that summer is already 1/2 over, it also means that there are wicked sales going on right now! I’ve been wanted to buy a new swimsuit top for a while now since my post-pregnancy/post-nursing boobs are too small for my old swim tops. I picked up a $40 top for $10 after the sale price, extra discount and gift card I had. Woo! It’s a beautiful yellow and matched wonderfully with my black bottoms.

Via le Vie en Rose

– I’m still trying to decide what I want to do with my life, other than be a mom. I still miss working, but I love staying at home and raising Isla. Ugh. Really, I need the perfect work-from-home job that isn’t selling Tupperware or being phone sex chat girl.

I’m a pretty boring person these days, so please, entertain me with something fabulous you’ve been up to!
