Thought Dump Button

  • After reading SO much about Fuller House, I finally decided to watch the first episode on Netflix. I’ll start off by admitting that I vaguely remember watching the show when I was younger, mostly because it was already on syndication when it finally caught my interest. That being said, I wasn’t overly impressed by the first episode. Too many “tributes” to the original series and it was just kind of cheesy. I’m going to give it a couple more episodes to see if it improves, but my hopes are not high. Sorry, superfans!
  • And to add the the whole rebooting of old TV shows, I don’t quite understand why it keeps happening. It seems like a giant cash-grab by Netflix. I’ll admit that I am looking forward to Gilmore Girls later this year, but has television become so stale that we have to recreate/continue decades-old series? There was a rumour that they’re rebooting Home Improvement, and I can already hear the gratuitous laughter the moment Al says, “I don’t think so, Tim,” or Wilson peeking over the fence. *groan* Thankfully, it was indeed just a rumour and it’s not happening.
  • I don’t understand the “Beauty Face” filter on cellphones. You can totally tell when someone uses it as it makes them look horribly airbrushed. Allow me to demonstrate:
#nofilter on left, "Beauty Face" on right

#nofilter on left, “Beauty Face” on right

I kind of look like a creepy doll, no? Also, this filter just goes to show how obsessed society has become with their appearances. We need to try harder to own who we are and not hide behind some cheesy selfie filter, because we’re not fooling anyone when we use it.

  • A certain celebrity recently posted a nude selfie on Instagram and is getting a lot of flack for it. And of course, there are people defending her, but why? If she weren’t a celebrity, would we still be high-fiving her brazen move? Keep in mind that she has two children. If a “regular” mom were to post a nudie on social media, chances are she would have little to no sympathizers. What example are we setting for our children if they grow up in a society where nonchalantly posting nude images of ourselves is acceptable behaviour? Could you imagine the playground talk? “MY mom posed nude!” “Oh yeah? Well, MY mom did a sex tape! Beat that!” Ugh. (Oh, and I’m going to go out on a limb and assume ya’ll know who I’m talking about. I’m not linking to her Instagram account or the photo because that only validates her actions further.)

Any thoughts you’d like to dump?

  1. I haven’t watched Fuller House yet, but I am planning to devoting one a day this month to bingeing on the series! And I cannot wait! I love it for its supreme, over-the-top cheesiness and I think there’s also the nostalgic factor. If I didn’t grow up with the show, I don’t think I’d have any interest in watching the reboot.

I got very excited when you mentioned a Home Improvement reboot. Alas. ;)

We… have very different tastes in TV shows, haha.

  2. Nathan and I watched Fuller House over the span of about three days. It IS super cheesy, and I was surprised at some of the humour – I don’t remember there being so much innuendo in the original, though I suppose I was a lot younger when I watched it and probably wouldn’t have noticed anyway. OverallI felt like Fuller House was a waste of time – but I couldn’t tear myself away! Go figure :) I can’t wait for the Gilmore Girls!!!!
