To the Market!

Today was/is a long day.

Friday night (or should I say Saturday morning?) my horrible college-aged neighbours woke Kyle and I up at 4 a.m. while they were yelling and screaming outside our front door. (Well, their front door, which is practically RIGHT beside ours.) To make matters worse, I was already sleeping horribly, and Kyle had to get up and to go work at 5:30. Awesome. I decided to go outside and tell them to “Shut the f*** up before I call the cops.” It kind of worked. Next time it happens, I will call the cops. Dead serious.

Updated to add: One of the tenants from next door came over and apologized for the noise and was upset at her friends for yelling. This makes me feel better. I appreciate apologies. I guess yelling like a crazy person at 4 in the a.m. works sometimes.

So, as a result or the noise and the yelling, I was tired as hell Saturday morning, but I still managed to get my butt out of bed and go to the farmer’s market with my mom! I haven’t been in probably two years, so it was great to go out! I got a pretty good haul too:

Clockwise from top left: Eating cukes (really, pickling cucumbers) for Kyle, Corn on the cob (my mom and I split a 1/2 dozen), dog treats for the pooches, raspberries, purple carrots, and a loaf of sourdough bread!

All that stuff for about $20! I devoured the raspberries as soon as I got home. SO GOOD. Going to the market was the best idea ever. I really have to go more often.

After we finished at the market, I took my mom to an open house for a house Kyle and I kind of had our eyes on. As it turns out, it needs a bit of work, so I’m not sure if it’s for us. Oh well. There’s lots more out there, we just have to have some patience.

After the open house, my mom and I parted ways, I made pizza dough and then had a nap while it was doing its thing in the bread maker. Then I made these cookies for Kyle again.

And now I’m relaxing on the couch before I wash my cookie sheet and put together our pizza for dinner. I’m so exhausted. For reals.

Oh yeah – and on top of all of this, I’m also doggy sitting Molly for the weekend! My SIL and MIL went to Vancouver for the weekend and the SIL couldn’t leave Molly home alone for three days, so Daphne and Molly are having a three-day play date. Ooooh boy!

Is it just me, or does it look like they’re talking to one another?

Molly: “Whoa – what the hell?”
Daphne: “Shut your face!”

Hope you’re having a fabulous Saturday!
Do you go to a local farmer’s market when you can?
Any nightmare neighbour stories to share?

  1. I can’t stand loud neighbours! Our place backs onto a park so just about every weekend during the summer someone is out there setting off fireworks – it drives me nuts. I like to SLEEP on the weekends, thank you very much! And every now and then we get someone under our bedroom window (we’re on the 2nd floor) threatening to stab or shoot someone – the police are regular visitors at our condo complex. I can’t wait until we sell!!!

I can’t believe you got all that for only $20 – I love going to the farmer’s market but it’s so expensive here, I hardly buy anything.

  2. I do like going to the farmer’s market – it’s usually not much cheaper if at all, but the quality is much higher! My favourite market is right next to a French deli, and also boasts various delicious stalls with artisan breads, paella, baklava and other delicious things.
