Thought Dump Thursday

I have thoughts. Lots of thoughts. It’s kind of hard not to when you’re home by yourself most days with your kids and don’t get much adult interaction outside of Facebook, which even then is stretching it. So, without further ado, I present to you a new series: Thought Dump Thursday.

  • During one of my middle of the night half-asleep nursing sessions with Norah, I briefly thought about running for city council because A) I have nothing better to do and B) I’m tired of some of the ways that the current council is running our city. I don’t think I’ll ever “apply” for that job, but still. What a joke it is sometimes.
  • Recently, supermodel/John Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen stated that she selected a female embryo during her IVF process, and of course, the Internet is all in a tizzy because of it. Without stepping up onto a virtual soapbox, all I’m going to say is that there are bigger issues out there when it comes to whether or not someone is having a boy or a girl. In many cultures, girls are not as desired and are often given up for adoption, abandoned, or worse. The fact that John & Chrissy chose to have a girl says something louder to me, even though that most likely isn’t their intent at all.
  • I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how not everyone will like what you choose to name your child, but they won’t tell you to your face. I’m brainstorming a full post about this, but essentially it all comes down to, “My kid, my choice.”
  • It’s been forever since I’ve wandered around the downtown area of my city and I’m sure I’m well overdue. From the sounds of it, there’s a ton of new (or at least new to me) businesses that have opened up and I need to check them out!

What’s rattling around in your brain today?
