Ten on Tuesday

1. How did your parents decide on your name?

It was the only thing they could agree on. Seriously. My dad wanted to name me Billie (I think I may have mentioned this before). Anyway, my mom veto’d that one, thank God.

2. Do your initials (First, Middle, Last) spell out anything fun/funny?

No, but once when I was in elementary school my teacher pointed out that if my middle name started with an “F”, I would be “KFC” like the restaurant chain. :P

3. Did you take your middle name from childhood or did you take your maiden name as your middle name? (If unmarried, what do you plan to do?)

I’m currently unmarried, but I plan on taking Kyle’s last name when the time comes. I’ve never heard of people axing their normal middle name in place of keeping their maiden name – or am I missing something there? I also don’t understand people who hyphenate their maiden and married names. It’s like their holding on to the past or something.

4. Are you or will you name your children thematically (ie. same first letter, all of same origin…)

Not at all. Kyle and his sister share the same first letter of their names and it’s annoying. Also – names that all rhyme bug me. Our kid’s names will be normal-ish.

5. Did you decide on baby names as a little girl? Did you stick to them or change your mind?

I don’t ever recall picking out names when I was little. I vaguely remember picking them out when I was in highschool, but I don’t remember what they are. Needless to say, we have different ones picked out now for when the time comes.

6. Does your family have any names that have been passed down through generations?

We don’t. Kyle’s family has some sort of non-tradition of giving the son the first name of his grandpa on the dad’s side as the middle name (Does that make sense? Kyle’s middle name is his dad’s father’s first name). I don’t really plan on following that tradition, and I think Kyle’s okay with that.

7. Do you look at the meaning of the name or just the name itself?

Usually just the name itself, but there’s some names that are obvious to their meaning, like Justin/Justine being “justice.” I’ll probably do a little research so my child doesn’t have to discover than his or her name means “a whale’s vagina” a la Ron Burgundy.

8. Do you name pets with human names (Sally, Henry) or with pet names (Fluffy, Mr. Bo Bo)?

Usually I name my dogs with human names. Cats are 50/50, and everything else usually has pet names.

9. Are there any names that you have an affinity or dislike for based on a childhood experience/someone you once knew?

There are definitely names we don’t like based on people we knew in high school who were unsavoury, but I won’t share them :)

10. What are some of your favourite names? Why?

They are “normal” names, but again, I’m not sharing. Mostly because I’m afraid someone going to steal the name. (I know a lot of pregnant ladies at the moment, holy moly! I think that getting married is starting to be “so last year,” lol)

Ten on Tuesday

1. What type of cell phone do you have and how would you rate it?

I have an HTC Desire Z and I love it! It’s pretty fast, has a touchscreen AND a full QWERTY keyboard. So lovely! (You can read a bit more about it in my post here) My only gripe? The battery life is not so great. I definitely can’t forget to plug it in at night or it will go dead.

2. What has been your most serious injury?

A dislocated shoulder. x8. Have I ever told this story? Maybe I should! Anyway – I was going to have surgery in January to have it repaired, but I opted out of it. I’m such a baby and the word “Surgery” scares the crap out of me. I can live with a shoulder that’s a little wonky!

3. What is one movie you hate and why?

I don’t think I hate any movies! There are movies which I thought were bad, but I don’t hate them. Don’t Mess With the Zohan was bad (Please, Mr. Sandler, just STOP making movies!), but I don’t hate it. Hmm … I do hate the hype behind all the Twilight movies. I’m sorry, but they’re just vampires. Buffy and Angel rocked a relationship years before those two kids were getting it on. Yeah, and they had a werewolf too – HE had to lock himself in a cage during full moons or he’d eat his girlfriend./tangent

4. How many email addresses do you have?

Three. I have my day-to-day Gmail account, and then I have a Hotmail account just for MSN/XBox (the emails are forwarded to my Gmail account). And then I have my work email, which I think is fabulous and makes me feel oh-so grown up! lol

5. What website do you waste the most time on?

Probably Facebook. Who doesn’t waste time on there? I also enjoy wasting time on People of Walmart, Awkward Family Photos, and Lamebook.

6. Which mexican restaurant makes the best salsa?

I have no idea. I don’t think I’ve actually been to a Mexican restaurant here! Although, we used to get free Taco Del Mar when I worked for the university newspaper, and their salsa was pretty awesome. Fresh is Best is probably my favourite though; it’s not from a restaurant, but it’s local and delicious!

7. What is your dream car?

Are we talking practical or total dream car? I’d love to have a Ford Escape as my next vehicle, but they’re so super expensive! I really love VW Jetta’s too, but again – expensive!

8. If you could spend up to $100 with no strings or restrictions or guilt, what would you buy?

Probably clothes. I need new work clothes!

9. What is your favourite board game?

I love me some Pictionary! No one will ever play with me though!

10. How often do you change your hairstyle?

Not often at all. It’s either long or short with some layers. That’s it, that’s all, no more! Right now I’m going long for the wedding. :)

Ten On Tuesday

1. What are your thoughts on Valentine’s Day. Do you love it? Hate it?

I don’t love OR hate it. I guess I’m neutral? I don’t think I’d miss it if it were to magically disappear.

2. What is your favourite romantic comedy?

I really like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I also love 27 Dresses. RomComs always make me laugh and cry.

3. Meg Ryan & John Mellencamp: what’s your first reaction?

What? Are they dating or something?

4. All time favourite poem or quote?

Can’t say I have one. I am so not a romantic.

5. What’s the longest amount of time you’ve gone without sleep? (like consecutive hours).

Not very. 22hrs maybe?

6. What colour ink do you prefer to use?

Blue, all the way blue. I love Bic Papermate pens. (At least I think that’s what they’re called)

7. Share with us a blog that you recently found and fell in love with (and link us!)

182 Days. She’s so inspirational!

8. If you could be on a reality TV show which one would you choose?

Survivor or the Amazing Race. Be in a competition AND travel? Yes please! They had auditions for Wipe Out Canada and I’d try out if it wasn’t for my ridiculous shoulder.

9. Mountains or Beach?

Can I have both? I guess I’d go with mountains.

10. With the Oscars around the corner, what’s your pick for best picture?

Is it horrible that I don’t even know who’s up for Best Picture? Allow me to Google that and I’ll get back to you …

… Okay – I’ve only watched one of the 10 movies nominated (True Grit). While I loved it, I doubt it would win. I think I’ll pick The King’s Speech. Or maybe the Social Network. Or Black Swan? I have no idea …
