Ten On Tuesday

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?

I’ve tried a lot of weird foods that sounded gross in my mind but turned out to be delicious. Bird’s Nest Soup, for one, is AMAZING, but when you describe what it is, it sounds horrible. Click through that link! Believe me, that soup is GOOD!

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?

I get a Kraft “What’s Cooking?” magazine every so often, but that’s about it. I subscribe to a few foodie blogs though, it that counts. (Of course it does!)

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook?

Salt! Haha, or dill. But most definitely salt.

4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult?

Yams. But now, I only like them in fry format.

5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird?

“Real” Chinese food, lol. My dad makes dim sum for me every now and then and Kyle usually doesn’t join me because he thinks the food is weird. I think it’s delicious!

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with?

I don’t think I’ve cooked with any weird ingredients, to be honest. Tofu is pretty strange, but lots of people have used it.

7. Do you have any major food allergies?

No, but sometimes lobster makes my skin itch. Only lobster though, not other shellfish.

8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try?

I would love to make my own Indian food, but I’m worried about making way too spicy and not being able to eat it! One day … one day!

9. Do you bake?

Yes, but not elaborate things like Angela (I’m so jealous of her baking skills!). I make the odd loaf of banana bread and a batch of muffins every now and then.

10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why?

None of them! I’m not gourmet enough to go on Iron Chef, and I’m pretty sure Gordan Ramsay would make me cry on Hell’s Kitchen. I’d love to be a taste-tester though!

Ten on Tuesday

1.  What condiments are always, always in your fridge?

Ketchup, mustard and Miracle Whip! There’s some random sauces and salad dressings too, but those three are staples.

2.   How do you like your steak cooked?  Your burgers?

I like my steak cooked medium rare and my burgers, well, cooked! I’m pretty sure we don’t have a choice on how we want our burgers cooked in Canada. I freak out if there’s the slightest bit of pink in my burger.

3.  What’s your favourite use for fresh tomatoes?

Greek salad! I can’t wait ’til it’s hot outside so I can have a nice, cold salad on the patio. Mmmm!

4.  What’s your go-to dinner when you haven’t planned anything in advance and you don’t feel like going out?

Usually potstickers and rice. Not particularly healthy, but it gets the job done.

5.  What’s your favourite snack food lately?

I love popcorn! I always put a little Salt & Vinegar or Dill Pickle flavouring on it though.

6.  What’s your favourite weekend breakfast to make at home?

Kyle and I always have bacon and hashbrowns, and I usually make a poached egg too if I have time.

7.  What’s your favourite thing to grill?  How do you do it?

Cheeses? I kid! I really enjoy fish grilled the best. Delicious!

8.  What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?

Haha, I’m not a wine OR beer person! Sorry :P

9.  Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.

I’m right out of those. I’m not a cocktail making kind of gal I guess! I do make a darn tasty Caesar though when I have the right ingredients. For the most part, I just buy the pre-made mix.

10.  How do you like your eggs?

Poached or sunny side up!

1. What is your cleaning style like?

I’m not entirely sure I have a cleaning style. Usually it’s an “All or Nothing” thing, “Go big or go home!” I’ll clean everything in the same day (floors, bathrooms, etc.) and be done with it. I HATE cleaning. I need a maid.

2. What is your favourite thing to add to an outfit to take it from casual to classy?

Probably a nice pair of shoes! I usually wear cute flats to work to class up my outfit and then wear flip flops everywhere else. I love my flip flops and can’t wait to let my toes be free! (And to start painting them again. Unseen toes in socks = fugly toes)

3. Do you like stormy weather?

No. I hate the wind and when it’s mixed with rain I just want to curl up on the couch and be lazy. I need happy, sunny weather to get me motivated.

4. What is your favourite cold treat on a hot day?

I love Greek salad on a hot day! I also love Starbuck’s passion lemonade. Such an awesome thirst quencher!

5. What is your favourite warm treat on a cold day?

Hot chocolate! I actually just bought hot chocolate T-Discs for my Tassimo machine Sunday. So delicious, even though it’s only about 9 oz. Ah well.

6. Who is your favourite animated character?

Well, my favourite animated movie from childhood is 101 Dalmatians, so I’ll say Pongo. :)

7. What do you keep your jewelry in?

I keep all my plugs and such for my ears in a little fishing tackle box, lol! Everything else – necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. – are in an actual jewelry box.

8. Do any of the rooms in your house have a theme?

Not really, but the room Kyle’s computer is in is nicknamed “The Man Cave.” It has a Miller (a welding product company) clock, UFC posters and his trades stuff hanging on the walls. Man Cave! Although, the bookshelf is in there and all my girly chick-lit books are on it. I’m everywhere, bwhaha!

9. Do you watch any interior design TV shows – if so, what is your favourite?

I haven’t in a loooong time! I used to watch Trading Spaces with my mom all the time, but I haven’t watched it in ages. (Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s not on the air) My mom and I would argue over who we’d wait to redesign a room in our house, and what room we’d want done.

10. When was the last time you did something risk-taking?

That’s a good question. I usually don’t take risks unless I’m damn-sure it will work out in the end!
