Who doesn’t have an opinion about current events? While I have my own, I don’t necessarily like to share them with others because to be honest, I hate getting into heated debates with people. I’m definitely an “Agree to disagree” kind of person. Regardless, here’s some of my thoughts on different newsy subjects that have been popping up lately, in 50 words or less.
On Breed-specific legislation:
Entire breeds of dogs shouldn’t be banned just because of a handful of isolated incidents. Ban the owners, not the breed! I’ve been bit by more small dogs than big ones and have known vicious labs!
On banning big-rigs from using a specific stretch of highway:
Sure it’s faster, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Just like jay-walking. You put yourself and others at risk.
On a proposed new mine near Kamloops:
Kamloops needs more “big money” jobs. We can’t survive on minimum wage, and the only places that give us that are industry jobs. People need to stop living in fear. I live near the proposed site and I’m not concerned. (Full disclosure: My husband works for a large open-pit mine)
On Smart Meters:
There’s a lot of controversy surrounding the use of smart meters. I personally don’t care that I have one. I don’t believe that it’s going to cause cancer, give me a third eye, or migraines. People are just too damn paranoid these days and looking to play the blame game.

I agree with all of these except the mine one! The economy always has gone up and down and it always will. “Big money” jobs won’t change that or protect people from that and protecting the environment is important too. We need to think about the future and not just a few years in the future but many years in the future as well and how the effects of the way we’re living today will affect our grand children and their children.
All that said, I don’t agree or disagree with the current proposed mine because I am not well enough educated on the topic. However, I think the ‘we need more jobs’ reasoning is not a good enough one. That’s my same thought on the proposed pipeline coming to BC as well.
Oh and I don’t know anything about Smart Metres so can’t agree or disagree on that one :) haha
I did enjoy this post though. A good way to share your opinion on current events without getting TOO into them. I may have to do this because I’ve got a few opinions lately. haha

I so agree about the breed banning. Some people should not be allowed to own animals, like my neighbor. It sounds like he beats his dog.
My uncle used to have a rot and it was the sweetest dog ever. It had a stuffed bunny it would carry around, so cute. and a sheet that when it came inside, it would lay it out in front of the tv and when it was ready to go outside put it away.
Dogs aren’t born mean. People are stupid.

YES, YES, YES to what you wrote for the last one. So many people are looking for a conspiracy or something to get mad about these days. And I agree about breed-specific legislation.
