Ten on Tuesday

Math was my absolutely worst subject in high school. It still is. These questions should be fun!

0.01×10^2. What was your best/worst day in math class?
My worst? It would’ve been almost failing Math 12 in order to graduate or getting busted for cheating on a test in Math 11. My best day would be finding out that I got a D on the final exam for Math 12 so I could graduate with enough credits.

20×10^-1. Who was your favorite/least favorite math teacher? Why?
Mr. Colvin, lol. He was younger, so he was easier to relate with. That, and he wasn’t too bad looking either. All the girls had crushes on him, I’m sure.

3×10^0. Is it okay to be bad at math if English is more your thing?
Yes. Yes it is. I’m HORRIBLE at math and English is definitely more down my alley!

0.4×10^1. How does this video make you feel?
I am confused. Are those women for real? Seriously? You don’t believe in math? Kids should have the right to choose whether or they want to take it? SERIOUSLY? Next question …

500×10^-2. What do you like/not like about math?
I like it when it makes sense. Add in letters, and I eventually lose my mind and get confused. What really made me want to die in high school were math proofs. Blarrrrg.

0.006×10^3. What makes someone a nerd?
Being both smart and cool. Or something like that. I have no idea, lol.

7×10^0. Who is the nerdiest person you know?
It’s a toss up between a guy a graduated high school with who’s now being coming a biochemist (or something equally revolutionary) or Kyle’s BFF, who is extremely technically savvy but hip and happening at the same time.

80×10^-1. What is the nerdiest thing you’ve ever done?
I wouldn’t say I did it intentionally, but I learned that I needed glasses because I couldn’t read the dialogue box on the XBox game I was playing.

0.9×10^1. Do you think GraphJam is funny?
I had never heard of it until just now, but yes. Yes I do.

10×10^1. Have you ever used math outside of school?
Complex math? No. Simple math like making change, figuring out how many birds are eyeballing me from the roof across the road and hours until the end of the day? All the time.

22 Weeks and Touching

A sensitive subject with many a pregnant women is touching of the belly. Some women don’t care, others do, but most people seem to think it’s okay to reach for a pregnant woman’s belly.

A co-worker actually wrote a pretty humorous column about touching/staring at the the belly. (You can read it here if you like). I will admit that I am guilty of (trying not to) stare at pregnant lady’s bumps. But not once, EVER, did I reach out to touch them. NEVER. Nor would I ask “How far along are you?” unless I knew the person and knew for a fact that they were expecting. In fact, I don’t think I ever touched someone else’s baby bump other than my BFF’s a couple years ago when she was pregnant with her daughter. And since then? No one’s. It’s awkward for me.

There’s something about going into that much of someone’s personal space bubble that really freaks me out. Once, while I was still working at Job #1, a customer looked at me, noticed my ear lobes were stretched, and proceeded to try and stick her finger through one of them. I’m not even joking. And did I know this lady? Nope – never seen her before in my life.

Needless to say, I’m not down with people I don’t know touching my ever-growing baby bump. Friends: Okay. Family: Duh. Co-Workers: Only If we’ve actually talked for more than 5 minutes about non-work related things. Strangers? Hell no. In my co-worker’s column she actually had mentioned that the best way to drive the point home to people touching the tummy is to rub theirs back. While I’ll probably never do it, it’s an interesting point. Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t make it okay to tummy rubs. Like strange dogs, you don’t go up and pet them because you don’t know how they’ll react. Will they accept it or want more, or will they bite your hand off?

The point is, you should always ask if it’s okay to touch a pregnant woman’s stomach before you reach out and molest it. Just because I like to rest my hand on it and rub it doesn’t mean you can too.

I shall now turn you to your regular pregnancy update programming:

How far along? 22 Weeks!

How big is baby? Almost 1lb, and nearly 11″ long from crown to heel, according to BabyCentre.ca.

Total weight gain/loss: I really have no idea, but probably a couple pounds or so. I’ve really contemplated buying a digital bathroom scale to keep track, but I still don’t like the idea of having a scale in my house.

Maternity Clothes? I went shopping on Saturday with my mom in search of a pair of jeans, but only if they were on sale! I scored a great pair of maternity jeans AND a pair of pants for work for $45 – a steal considering a pair of maternity jeans alone is normally $60! I really need to start investing in shirts though, since some of my current ones are starting to “tent” out at the bottom.

Stretch marks? Still none – Yay!

Sleep: I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night sweating to death, it’s horrid. I never feel warm, but I’m just dripping. I hate sleeping with no covers on my just as much as I hate sleeping naked, so who knows what I’ll do.

Movement: Lots of movement after I eat or if I’m resting/sitting upright. They say when you’re moving you’re essentially rocking the baby to sleep, so when you stop they wonder what the hell is going on and protest, lol.

Food cravings: The other night I really, really, wanted a piece of apple pie with ice cream. That thankfully passed. I really actually want some waffles in a bad way, and not just Eggos. Kyle seems to think that Eggos are an acceptable form of waffle. No. No they are not.

What I miss: Being able to get up off the couch without some kind of leverage. I’m like a turtle on its back when I sit down, and it’s only going to get SO much worse from here.

What I am looking forward to: Painting Baby I’s room! I went and bought the paint on Saturday, so during the first weekend of March my mom and I are going to get painting.

Milestones: Not much, really. We’re still waiting for our stroller to come back into stock (which better be less than 4 months from now), and we’ve yet to find a crib we like. Other than that, it’s the same ol’ same ol’! Baby I does have a good, strong heartbeat, which is always amazing to hear, and my ultrasounds all came back clear. Woo!

What’s your stance on “touching?”

Seven Quick Takes

–1–

Sometimes, I wonder where my husband gets all his smarts and great ideas. Remember how he totally surprised me for Valentines Day with a massage gift certificate? Well, he suggested I make it for a Friday after work so it makes a great kick-off to my weekend. Such a great idea!! I love how he’s always two steps ahead of me in every situation.

I’m thinking it’s about time that I go and buy paint for Baby I’s room. I picked out the colours a couple weeks ago, and now that I’ve let it stew in the back of my mind for a little bit, I decided that’s what I’m painting the walls. What colours are we going with? Why, I thought you’d never ask!

The Internet does NOTHING for the colours – they’re much prettier in person! “Sun Glint” is a light, creamy, yellow-white which will be the main colour of the walls. Purple Cream looks more pinkish-purple (but more purple than pink, if you understand what I mean), and it will be the colour of the stripe in the room, as well as the border on the ceiling that’s currently brown. I’m seriously in love with these colours! And? THEY’RE NOT PINK! I wanted to avoid pink walls at all costs, since the bedding and accessories we’ll get will probably have some pink in them anyway.

Allow me to get all “awkward moment conversation” on you and talk about the weather. Recently in Kamloops, it’s been pretty f-in gorgeous. Like, I haven’t had to bundle up in a sweater 24/7 gorgeous. (Although that may just be pregnancy hormones making me sweat to death.) Yesterday we had blue skies, clear roads and it was wonderful. Yesterday morning, I woke up to this:

I actually first witnessed the snow around 5:30 a.m. when Kyle was heading to work, but that’s beside the point. I guess good ol’ Punxsutawney Phil wasn’t lying about there being more winter ahead. As of 4:30 p.m. yesterday it was still snowing. FML.

I should probably explain the trampoline in the photo too, although it doesn’t need much explanation. We/Kyle bought one last weekend to use for exercise. As childish as it may sound, he’ll jump on it for at least an hour at a time, which is a great cardio and leg workout. We actually had a trampoline before we bought our townhouse in 2010, but sold it due to the obvious lack of space our townhouse had yard-wise. One of the main reasons why we bought our full-size house was the amazing yard, which we could probably fit two more trampolines into! I’m sure our neighbours think we’re a little strange, but trampolines seem to be in every backyard in our neighbourhood! We’ll just have to have our friend’s kids over to jump on it so we don’t seem so silly.

I am a little miserable that everyone and their dog seems to be on Pinterest now. All I see one Facebook is people asking for invites and what they’re pinning. Ugh. I figured it was only a matter of time before the rest of the social media world caught onto it. But, maybe since they did, someone out there will buy me this amazing infinity scarf that I keep drooling over:

It would look seriously amazing against my black wool coat! I may just have to cave and buy it for myself. Believe it or not, I’ve never actually bought myself a scarf; I’ve always had them gifted to me!!

Sometimes I wonder why/how people find my blog by searching the weirdest things. Some search terms that have led people to my blog include “joy strap-on”, “dog mermaid”, “what are some crazy shit that happens when your pregnant”, “pregnant wetting”, and “if you don’t poo for a whole year facts”. Those are just some of the gems I found in my site stats. Hilarious? I think so! And really, mentioning them in this post is only encouraging them. Oh well. I think some of them are too funny not to share!

I’m still in search of a delicious-yet-easy vanilla cake recipe! If you have one you’d like to share with me, please email it my way! I’m planning on making Kyle a cake for his birthday, but I have never made a vanilla cake before (only chocolate).

How’s the weather in your neck of the woods?
What search terms (bizarre or not) have brought visitors to your blog?
