WTW: 6 Months!

Today’s Wedding Talk Wednesday is brought to you by the letter six! That is, my wedding is in six months! And there’s still SO MUCH to do! I even had a mini panic attack Monday afternoon.

Let’s see, I still have to:

  1. Find bridesmaid dresses
  2. Pick flowers
  3. Find favours for our guests
  4. Get wedding bands
  5. Make & mail out invitations
  6. Figure out decorations

And then there’s the usual stuff, like getting the marriage license, have my dress fitted and altered (once it arrives), get the guys their tux’s, and PAYING FOR EVERYTHING! It’s starting to get a little overwhelming.

Watching Rich Bride, Poor Bride while I type this blog post definitely doesn’t help either. Where the hell do these people get the money to buy a $500 tiara?? Holy muther-f’er …

Anyway, I know it will eventually all come together. I already have the invitations, they just need to be printed; and my aunt is an awesome florist and has offered to help me with the flowers. The only things I’m really lost on are decorations and favours. I already know what I’m personally giving my bridal party, and Kyle knows what he wants to give his guys, but neither of us know what do give our guests at the reception. Candy? Keepsakes? Homemade? Bought it bulk? One wedding I went to a couple years ago did homemade truffles and another did baby pine trees to take home and plant. I just don’t know!

There’s actually a Bridal Fair at the end of this month that I hope to be able to go to if Job #2 isn’t douchy and gives me the day off. I’m really hoping that it will give me lots of ideas!

Any suggestions for favours? What would you want to get as a favour? Something edible or something that will last forever?

  1. a traditional on this side of town is to have all the women in your family bake cookies or brownies and then to display them on a cookie tab. Guests can choose a few to take home in a bag as their favor. You can also do something similar with a candy table by getting different candies in your wedding colors.

    • I like that idea! I just don’t know how keen everyone in my family is on baking, lol. I’ve thought about a candy table too but am just concerned with how much it would cost.

  2. I always thought a nice idea for favors and way to put money to good use is make a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of favors in each guests name. Take the amount that you would spend on favors and make a donation either in each guests name or one lump sum donation in you and Kyle’s name. This way you are giving back and you know your guests aren’t going to go home and misplace the favor and you don’t feel like you wasted money.

    For more traditional favors: You could burn a CD with you and Kyle’s favorite songs.

  3. Oh god, I’m SO BAD AT SMALL DETAIL type things! Hahaha. This is why I will SUCK at planning a wedding one day.

    Hmmmm. I don’t think we got favours at the last wedding I went to.. Or if we did, I don’t remember what they were. Eric’s sister had a fishing-themed wedding because her and her husband are really into fishing and they gave out fish hooks as favours lol.

  4. A wedding I went to also did the baked goods favours. Regardless of what you decide to do, I’ll help you assemble or bake or build or whatever. Keep in mind that most people will probably lose the favours within a year or two anyway, so don’t stress too much about them. I will brainstorm today.

  5. I’m inclined to think decorating type stuff to take home would be junked simply because everyone’s interests and tastes are so different. I love the baking and charity ideas.
